Re: Take a look at this

If in doubt always ask and Martin did actually state it above already: ...The vacuum rectifier is backed up by silicon diodes, one in series with each anode, protecting against a short and increasing alowable anode voltage. When you see a cap there it is usually an idea from the HiFi crowd to stop ...

Re: Take a look at this

...now i,m confused, which is the correct way... High Voltage AC goes into the rectifier GZ34 on pin 4 and 6 5v AC heaters go to pin 2 and 8 Take the DC rectified off Pin 8 as outlined above by rdjones You are seeing the diodes mounted on the normally unused Pin 3 and 7 in that layout, from there t...

Re: voltage doubler,rectifier

Here is a schematic for an old Silvertone amp I have. It uses a double voltage doubler...LOL. Two very low voltage secondaries doubled, then stacked together. Just ignore one of the secondaries and you will see how it was implemented. Hope this helps.

Re: first tw build need a little help

After watching some clips on the net im considering a rocket build. I have a few things id like to make sure of before starting, One thing ive read is use a proven layout i assume the one in the TR files is proven? Turrets ok or are eylets recommended? Re: Back to square one... success! Dumb mistake

No worries I am not asking to humiliate you, but knowing what the cause of your amps symptoms could help someone else down the road. BTW I've made a few stupid mistakes myself on some builds and they were always the ones I learned the most on. Todd Originally I wired the bias circuit and the wires ...

Re: Back to square one... success! Dumb mistake

It's not scolding Randy, it is just real common for people to hesitate to re-flow a solder joint that "looks good". Many times they fight looking for a larger problem when a few minutes spent re-flowing a few connections finally solves the problem. I will have to second the chance that a pot could b...

Re: Back to square one...

I patched in another transformer and to my dismay it too had the low volume very distorted sound, so I'm sure the OT is not my problem... Maybe I have a bad coupling cap that is throwing the bias of the next preamp stage off... I'm grasping at straws now... what else can I try? In your last thread ...

Re: Q: Trainwreck Express PT Power Transformer Settings

You might be correct, it is possible that the tubes need not be re-biased to switch them out. I personally check and re-set bias (if needed) whenever replacing power tubes, even if I replace them with the same model of tube. I don't know if it is always needed, but I feel better knowing for sure I a...

Re: Q: Trainwreck Express PT Power Transformer Settings

I'm looking at building a Trainwreck Express soon. I see the power transformer has 260-0-260 and 300-0-300 taps. Also, it can use 6V6 or EL34's! I'm wondering...what was in the original(s)? What is preferred?? I see on the schematics I've seen that the B+ is like 395, soo I'm thinking just use the ...

Re: Brown Fender Pro 6G5 crackle pop

Sometimes a bad or loose tube socket can cause this symptom. Have you tried to re-tension or clean the pin holders on the sockets? I have heard of this helping with intermittent crackling noises. Might not be the problem, but it is something easy to try first.
