Re: Steel String Singer question

Wyatt I am confused:? Going by this layout, both the JM and the C-Tone/Sterling (004 )appear to have the same "Classic" Tone stacks, minus the R/J switch on the JM ( I consider that stack streamlined) 004, of course, has yes another tone stack (and recovery amp) after the classic by way of the filt...

Re: Steel String Singer question

I would think the brightness would be mostly due to the Sterling having the filters and the Wonderland not. Nope. The JM/Wonderland has noticeably different tone stack design than the 004/Sterling. The JM Sig was intentionally re-voiced to be be mellower and darker; imagine the sound of a 004 stuck...

Re: BNP Lasers - Retired? sh*t!

Amplates retired along with BNP, BNP did all the fabrication for Amplates (and steered design back work to Amplates)

Precision Design is still around.

Re: AN Wonderland/JM 100w layout

If you use the Greenlee I would punch a test hole on scrap. But it is a radio set you said so maybe? Yeah, I have a collection of the old Radio Tube punches, they are true to size (unlike the conduit punches) 1 3/16" radio punch works perfectly for Belton and most NOS octal sockets, but I have 1 1/...

Re: AN Wonderland/JM 100w layout

Wattstubeaudio has blank 17.5x8x2.5 or 20x8x2.5 that I use a lot. I always buy at least one chassis cover plate to use as my chassis mounting guide. Mark I think I found another possible solution here, would save me some time with the nibbler to get an IEC and PT knocked out. https://www.ebay.com/i...

Re: 1966 Super Reverb restoration

Wow, and here I thought the '66 SR chassis I had bought needed restoration. That is a LOT of labor to negate.

I can't believe I'm the first to ask...how does it sound?

Re: AN Wonderland/JM 100w layout

Any suggestions on chassis? I'm kicking myself for not getting one when Taylor was selling them when he posted this layout (though I remember the timing was bad for me). I don't need the AN chassis (though I would love have a chassis that fit one of Taylors's suede cabs), but not quite sure of alter...

Re: 1972 Fender Champ Kit AA764 circuit available?

The two differences between BF and SF are the 40uF filter cap on the SF (and many BF) and the 4uF bypass cap on the driver stage of the SF models. I expect the latter makes a much big difference in adding "cut through" and making the SF a noticeably brighter amp.

Re: Blackface Vibroverb Output Transformer Recommendations

I built a "VibroClone" with a '66 Super Reverb chassis I had. People are of varying opinion on the OT... I used the 40w Vibroverb-sized OT (Classictone 40-18105), I wanted the smaller iron because I prefer the compression that sets in from the smaller OT. Many (if not most) prefer the bigger Super R...

Classictone is made by Magnetic Components, which in turn is owned by Marvel Elec. (another Chicago-area transformer company). ASIAK, Triode was only a dealer/distributor.

Re: Macbook guitar interface

Are you using software amp sims? For a 2010 Macbook, I would consider a used 1st gen Apogee Duet. It was the go-to for Logic and Garage Band for a while. I see the the 1st gen go for~ $100 including all the cables on ebay (originally $600). The caveats are that it is is Mac only and Firewire (IIRC, ...

I've never been divorced...so you'll have to explain. I assume he's talking about separate preamp and power amp chassis. http://mckennasgarage.com/newgallery/albums/standelbuild/IMG_0597.sized.jpg http://music-electronics-forum.com/attachments/6449d1254274251-valco_s6450-tr-tube-amp-rear-view.jpg A...

Re: AC10C1 schematic

Vox doesn't publicly release the schematics of "in production" models. Once they go out of production (like the CC series), then they start to tickle out.

I don't know how they handle an authorized repair center.

Re: AN Wonderland/JM 100w layout

Heater wiring is usually assumed in layouts, it keeps it cleaner and easier to read. The builder/laborer already knows the heater wiring has to go in, and each builder/company usually has their preference for how to do it. Up and over; tucked against the back of the chassis; parallel buss; elevated ...
