Re: Tan Music Man

But even if you had that document, you don't know if it's loaded or unloaded, and there is no current rating given. Now, you could say that since there is no current specified it is zero, but come on! Mojo is as bad or worse. Hammond data sheets have loaded and unloaded voltages, and DCR. Well, tha...

Re: Tan Music Man

Here is Mercury Magnetics HD130. Thanks CW! Another outfit that is not very forthcoming with basic information about stuff they sell... 265 VAC makes sense if it's unloaded, and consistent with Tony's info above. Wow, I never knew what the Mercury specs were, would have saved me some effort 8 years...

Re: Tan Music Man

Which of these models again you think run high unloaded? I was questioning the 265VAC loaded Mike mentioned for a MM-type PT he had wound. It would make sense if it was meant to be the unloaded voltage. Did I misunderstand? Martin, yes that was unloaded as when you install tubes and FET board, volt...

Re: Tan Music Man

BTW.Did you have yours custom wound or was it a replacement? Tony Tony, the first one was a MusicMan replacement from Mojo, wound by Heyboer. I used this only because I was unsure of my specs, not being sure of what guys like Brandon and Shad was doing. I regretted using this transformer, it as ran...

Re: Tan Music Man

Martin One of the main reasons why I have been hesitant until now to post any layouts of the MM info is due to the higher voltages in this amp  I would just feel awful if someone tried to build this amp with my layout without taking the proper precautions or make a slip up that could seriousl...

Re: Tan Music Man

Ok, in this post from that thread TM says these specs (same as Tony posted above) are not for the 130W. The 265-0 loaded voltage mentioned would produce ~750V on the plates, which is too high, isn't it? [quote=ToneMerc post_id=322640 time=1415454063 user_id=6557] Thanks...

Yep, I remember that tip from you.......thanks again.

Re: Tan Music Man

To do this right, though, I think all of the other caps should be stacked to cover transients and power-up without tubes installed. I'd also put a Zener on the FET filter node to protect it. Martin, that's not a bad idea. On my very first HV build I used stacked radials across B3 thru B5 because of...

Re: Tan Music Man

I think I have just about a full chassis shot of a MM supply amp, just need to find it.

Re: Tan Music Man

martin manning wrote: Sat Jun 02, 2018 4:12 pm So this 192 amp does not take the screen supply from the middle of the reservoir?
AFAIK, it does just additional filter feeding the screens. Also, the screen grid resistors are lower in value ,100-150R.

Modify the sch to reflect the 4x100 mains, totem pole at B3 and 820k bleeder.

Re: Tan Music Man

There are a few other things about that photo: The reservoir looks to be 4x 100u, in a 2x2 stack with the screen node taken from the middle. There are no balance resistors; none are needed. Off the divider there is a stack of two radial caps with 470k balance resistors. I'd guess they are 47u 350V....

Re: Tan Music Man

That must be for 4x 6L6, yes? I don't know, good question!. I am thinking this is for 34's since I don't know of many 6L6's that can handle that high a plate voltage. Most older MM's came stock with Sylvania or Amperex 6Ca7's I think those were rated 800V on screens  Martin maybe you can run ...

Re: Tan Music Man

Phil Thanks for the work! It's close a few things, The 40k/10w connection should go to B+1 (Plate Supply) Not the screen supply! The last dropper should be 2k2 not 22k The 82K bleeder goes between the 40k resistor and B+3 to gnd (see pic below) The bleeders across the plate caps should be 270K not ...
