Amp advice - I'll build for a friend
Hi, guys. I want to build an amp for a friend. I'll use a 2x12" combo cabinet and 50w (2xEL34 or 2x6L6) trannies as a building foundation. The PT is locally made, the OT is Allen Amps TO-60 What can I build that'll offer a good basic clean tone and some marshally crunch (ACDC rhythm style)? I realiz...

Thanks so much for this drawing.
The schematic is terrific as well. The gorund map is great.

Re: What to do about hum?
That could be agreat thread. I have the same problem  Excuse me, but I'll hijack... My amp is very quiet when the PI entrance is grounded. I tried shielding the preamp heater wires and elevating them to 20v - noise is the same. BTW, noise is EXACTLY the same no matter where I: set the mu...

Re: Vox AC15, EF86 channel only, head
Thanks for the tips, Casey. I'm surely trying to make things simple with this amp. About the OT, my thoughts were that the Marshall 18 watt OT would give me a similar Vox vibe with added power (which would perhaps mean a little cleaner). My question is if by using this OT I'll be missing too much of...

Re: Vox AC15, EF86 channel only, head
That's a good idea regarding the pentode/triode tubes. Perhaps it'd be good to have two sockets wired in parallel so you can change back and forth between them? Good to know about the 6.3v secondary. What about the OT? Would I benefit from using the 18 watt? Or would I loose something by not using a...

Re: Vox AC15, EF86 channel only, head
Thanks, Casey Jones. Ordering from Weber wouldn't be a problem except I was planning on using other vendor (I already have most of the stuff and Mojo has Heyboer trannies in stock). I'll have to try the lifted spring-mounted square thing. Hope it's enough. Also, just a mildly related question. I was...

Thanks for the tip, CaseyJones.
What is this isolation mount? I've seen a tubing to roll around the EF86
to tame it's microphonic and rattle down a little.
I was planning on a head already. Tubes pointing up.

Very good tones. Not your common Dumble application,
which is refreshing. Very good.

Re: Vox AC15, EF86 channel only, head
Thanks, Skip. I chose the three-position cap selector based on reports like yours that only a few positions are really useful. What do you think about the cap values I've chosen as a starter? I'm curious on the Bassman/Marshall side. How does i sound and is it useful? This project started for me wit...

Re: Noise in Dumble circuits....
So sorry to ask this but I don't think I understand. The B+ is the 6.3v winding on the PT? What about the other side of the winding? I'd like to try that on my somewhat noisy build. Shielded preamp heater wires didn't help. Is it anything like this? Edited: Changed the picture to reflect heisthl cor...

Vox AC15, EF86 channel only, head
Hi everyone. Hopefully, this will be my next amp. As people requested, here is the untested and incomplete layout and schem. Just a Vox AC15 power section with a selectable dual-ganged master volume and EF86 preamp. All very tight in a small head chassis - just like I thought I would never build an ...

Re: Geofex A/B/Y box?
Yup, that's me. 30 years or so ago, opening a show for Santana & Marshall Tucker. Marshall Tucker was the headliner then. Go figure..... That's so cool!!!!!! 8) Skip, it still remains untested  There were a few critiques to the design which should be just three buffers (two non-inverting and ...
