Re: Wanting to build another Rocket: Rocket or ZWreck?
Path 1: Build the KT66 Rockster. Like the Rocket, it's a great amp -only MORE. Don't forget to add the MID knob. Path 2: Build the Rocket and make incremental changes after you finish it. That way you'll learn the effects of your changes and be less the noob when you're done. RJ has accumulated a bo...

Re: Pedal Mule 30 - Prototype build
Any other thoughts??? Sure. If you are trying to dial in voltage drop, subbing the resistor is fine. If you are looking for filtering action, you need the correct reactance. Reactance is, simply put, the resistance as a function of frequency. X = 2 x pi x f x L If your choke's inductance is very low...

Testing for ultrasonic oscillation
If it is indeed really really quiet dimed, I'd actually suspect it is actually oscillating above the range of hearing. One way to tell is if you fully dime it in a dim room the blue glow from the output tubes should not be any brighter than idling with the volume off. Another way to confirm no ultr...

Re: Ultimate shame: I bought it on eBay, a cautionary tale
So stainless steel is non ferrous? I think some SS has more iron in it than other. The phase composition varies with series - magnetic properties vary from low to negligible. I had a refrigerator that was stainless and the magnets wouldn't stick. :D It was great to see a fridge that wasn't covered ...

It looks like your heat sink under the rheostat comes pretty close to your lugs. I don't understand why you'd add the heat sink like that. Are you confident that it acts as a heat sink in this configuration?allclear7 wrote:Dose anyone see anything wrong before i plug it in ?
Sometimes simplest is best.

Re: Ultimate shame: I bought it on eBay, a cautionary tale
I don't really understand where the issue is about magnetic leads. Can they affect the circuit? If you're afraid of magnetic fields, don't pass current through 'em! Most have some kind of plated steel in them. There are likely a lot more parts in the ol' bin that are steel (vs copper), just w...

Re: Bought my first ever Gibson
I can understand the appeal of the LP, but there are lots of other great double humbucker guitars out there... Lots! And many of them are much better than Gibson has been in a long time. The last new Gibson I bought was in '73. Here's a current sample sleeper: [IMG:900:621]http://i1122.photobucket....

Replace the board and turn it into a Trainwreck-like Rocket.

Re: Vox AC30 kit?
Consider the Trainwreck Rocket, if you are interested in a very stable, builder-friendly, version of the Top Boost. It is well documented here at Ampgarage. Look to RJ Guitars for supplies.

Google "Goodsell 17". Look 'round the website, and you'll find the description of the topology as well as a gutshot of the amp.

Re: Cleaning up an Express' act
I love my Express clone! ..but, I want a bluesy, compressed, edge of breakup sound for my Tele, too. Sold on the Wreck philosophy and only Express-like touch sensitivity and dynamics will do (but with less gain, so it will properly clean up when heavily attenuated. I've not played a Rocket (none av...
