Re: Express and Liverpool Kits

Point is, you really don't have a purpose other than to start crap. Don't try to deny it. We've all seen your type and can smell you coming a mile away. Rich, you could be more wrong about me but you'd have to try really hard. Go away? Thanks, but this is a public forum and I won't go away just bec...

Funny, I haven't been called a troll since my starring role in "Three Billie Goats Gruff" back in kindergarten (some 40+ years ago).

Thanks for the reminder of kinder, gentler times...

Cheers,

Re: Express and Liverpool Kits

Sorry to have upset anyone. My bad. Gosh, why not just use better soldering? It's not that difficult. MilSpec? It's just the way I learned some 30+ years ago. The objective isn't just a pretty solder joint, it's a joint that's easy to inspect and has solid mechanical and electrical integrity. Many p...

...but I've never heard anyone say they had to reflow any of his work. I would posit that people buying a pre-soldered board probably don't know any better. That's why they are buying a pre-assembled board. I was looking at the boards presented at the website for various amps and that looks like th...

Re: Need a sanity check on my layout, please.

BTW, last week I played an original '80s Fender Esprit through my Dumble clone. The pickups were hot enough to drive the clean channel into overdrive with the master at 11 o'clock. IMHO, the Dumble is capable of some killer power amp distortion! (We just don't like to think of it like that. )...

Re: Need a sanity check on my layout, please.

This is a work in progress, but I thought I'd throw it out and see if any of you older, wiser builders see any glaring errors. It's a 6V6 ODS with 5AR4 rectifier. Transformers are Trainwreck style from Moose. (300-0-300, 300mA PT; 35W 6.0k primary OPT) It's going into a "standard" Dumble chassis si...

Re: Express and Liverpool Kits

The soldering is first rate... Does the soldering look to have excess solder to anyone else? I see globs of solder on top of most every turret. That's not the way I was taught to solder milspec type applications. Not to drag down his kits but I would not regard it as "first rate". Probably still a ...

Re: Tuning the OD for humbuckers vs. single-coils

Very interesting thread ! I'm just starting to build my first clone and my main guitar is 3 single coil tele. I've built one with double humbuckers and am starting to build a les paul with two P90's. It would be most cool to have a switch for SC's and humbuckers 8) I guess I'm hosed. I really like ...

Re: What determines output ... OT or PT

What is responsible for the Trainwrecks 30 watt output? It is dominated by its low (for El34s) B+ voltage. What would happen if you use an existing transformer for a 50 watt Marshall? In general, if you're talking PT/OT set, the higher B+ with produce more power, the larger OT will transmit more po...
