Re: If you had to choose tones, BF Bassman or JMP 1987 tones?

That sounds like good advice. I appreciate it as well. I suppose with my Mod 101 kit I will just concentrate on getting it to sound good period, though I'll likely start with the Blackface foundation and tweak from there.
Thanks

Re: If you had to choose tones, BF Bassman or JMP 1987 tones?

can I use a pedal on the front end of the fender or mod it? stock vrs stock? next... for which application or style? From a rental standpoint. I get about 35% more interest in the vintage Fender. From the feedback I recieve, the Marshall is timeless, but the tone can be achived/faked/dialed in from...

Re: If you had to choose tones, BF Bassman or JMP 1987 tones?

So if you are asking me to vote on which amp to build I would say what kind of music do you want to play with it and what is your personal passion and style? To solve your problem, I would build'em both and run'em in stereo! :P  8)[/quote] I should have asked "If a person was stuck on a deserte...

Re: If you had to choose tones, BF Bassman or JMP 1987 tones?

I made a boo boo with the 2204 and 1987 designations but I did mean 1987 amp. It's not really scientific anyways I was just curious. So I guess Early to mid 60s Fender BF versus Early 60s 50 watt Marshall sounds would have been the better question.

If you had to choose tones, BF Bassman or JMP 1987 tones?

If you had to choose between tones, BF Bassman or Marshall 1987 model JMP tones of the 60's era?

Re: 6L6 or EL34 Tube Amp Kits from AES

I hate to answer my own question , but after looking over a couple of Marshall Schematics, namely the JMP 1987 and the JMP 2204 Master Volume It looks like that if one would do the Input Voltage Divider Mod and Maybe the Bypass Cap (too make highs smoother) and Use EL34's he might get a somewhat Mar...

Mod 101 Kit Amp

These are from the MOD 101 amp kit. The one I named BF looks basically like the normal channel on a BF Bassman I believe. I have attached a couple more. Anyone have any ideas on what they are copying? The values changes from stock are in red as is the tube complement. I think the 32 variations is te...

Learning how they work

I have built and modified a few amps as well as effects. I have been following instructions or mods already proven to work. For example, I am thinking of building a two stroke style amp. I know that it is Class A. What if I want to make the two stroke 15 or 20 watts instead of the 8 or 9 that it is ...

Airbrake ohms question?

THe Airbrake owners manual states the following. When using the Airbrake with older vintage amps, mismatching the load will be a safer way to operate. This will eliminate any overheating of the output transformer. For example, a Vox AC30 or vintage 100 watt Marshall should be run at 8 ohms through t...

Re: Confused About Impedance Mismatching?

It sounds like the devil is in the details. Amp mfg., model, tubes, tranny, etc... I would conclude that it would be best to check with the manufacturer before setting up a mismatch just to be on the safe side.

Thanks

Confused About Impedance Mismatching?

This is impedance mismatching as I thought I understood it concerning tube amps. If the impedance is lower than the amp expects to see, the tubes work harder run hotter and do not last as long, e.g. 8 ohm amp into 4 ohm speaker cabinet. If the impedance is higher than the amp expects, the output tra...

Re: Airbrake Files

The rheostat? Its in a different airbrake thread. Mark I am looking for a layout or a schematic WITHOUT the reohstat. I thought the picture I am attaching was it but maybe not? Questionable item circled in yellow. If it is a rheostat do I just leave it out and wire everything else as shown? Thanks ...
