Re: Another One

I just finished up a home brew 6G3 and it has the same issue with the volume controls. It's an angry little bastard!
At 1 it's not loud enough.
At 2 it's plenty loud.
At 3 the cops are on the way.
I'll have to try the CTS 1M Audio's.

Re: Steve Hackett concert

Absolutely man.
I'm not a big fusion fan, but he just has something that kind of transcends that whole genre.
And really, for that matter, Hackett does too, sorry for the derail.
(I'm jealous, never seen Akkerman live. Would really love to though!)

Nektar!
Rare Bird
Gentle Giant

Loved Focus despite Hocus Pocus. Jan Akkerman is still a monster player.

Re: 2nd Gen ODS in CE Chassis

Loves me some 2nd gen.
Nice David!
Awhile back I replaced all plate and cathode resistors on my 2nd gen with the Electra MF's. Don't know that it sounds any better, but it looks more authentic. :D

Re: why does everyone still put an FET input on builds?

The FET input is very useful with a Strat. I think of the FET input as the Strat input and Normal input as the humbucker input. You could boost the Strat with a pedal, but the FET allows the amp to be to be more grab and go. Edit: crbowman beat me to it I'm uncharacteristically quick on the draw to...

Re: why does everyone still put an FET input on builds?

I was advised by someone "in the know" to include the FET input on my 2nd gen build. Can't really speak for the later generation amps but I love it on mine. I adjust the gain on the FET to compensate for lower output single coils and use the regular input for humbuckers and P90's. It just gives you ...

Hell yeah!
With that vibrato, he could say more with one note than most can in a whole set.

Big fan since 78.
Hell, even John Lydon admitted that he's had a big thing for her forever.

Re: vibrato circuit

The old brown Fender Concert 6G12a has a really wonderful vib/trem circuit with no opto-oscillator.
Check it out:

Re: Simple AC15?

Your average mid 70's Japanese sedan weighs less than an AC30 combo. I have an AC15ish amp with an EF86 front end and just volume and cut controls. Very simple, similar to a stripped down Foxy. Not much clean headroom, but really screams at a pretty moderate volume. I will admit though, that sometim...

That is a beauty! I don't know that I've ever seen a Marshall with flying heater wiring.

Re: Humble Overdraft? Anyone built one?

I built the Humble Overdraft Specimen back before I discovered TAG.
+1 on what pullshocks has said. I think that's a very fair assessment. Not a bad sounding amp at all, just not very accurate considering what we know today.

I'm still guessing that you've got a problematic preamp tube or driver tube.

Re: Guitar volume pedal

I play pedal steel as well as six string and I have a number of volume pedals. The volume pedal is an integral part of any steel setup and therefore, must be pretty robust. Seems like the main pedals used by steel guys are made by Goodrich, and Hilton. They ain't cheap, but they're very solid and re...
