Re: New cabinet
I built it off the '88 schematic from Marshall. The board uses the Dreamtone layout (which seems fairly logically laid out.) Sounds great! It does a great clean, different to my 5E3, but still good-sounding. The master works like I hoped it would, I can get good-ish crunch at low-ish volumes. It sti...

New cabinet
Not a Trainwreck or a Dumble, but I thought you guys might like this one. I built a JCM800 clone awhile ago with Mojotone parts supplied by Custom Audio Boutique (a NZ company), and just today received the cabinet for it, crafted by Ash Customworks (a NZ luthier who does really good work.) Front: [i...

Last Time by the Stones has a nice solo -- it fits nicely with the main riff.

Re: Advice on best resistor and capacitor brands?
Do paper in oil caps need to be replaced after awhile? And are polystyrene caps the ones that look like green versions of orange drops?

Re: Checking Resistor Values
Given that a certain amount of colouration is desirable in guitar amps (as opposed to supposedly neutral hifi amps) I would have thought that a certain ballpark tolerance would have been good enough for rock n roll?

Re: Rocket PT 240v
He has a Edcor PT listed with 260V, 6.3V and 5V. The page also says that Edcor can do 240V versions (with 3 weeks notice.)

Looking at some of these, I'm surprised that no one has just potted the entire chassis in black epoxy like an ARP 2600 submodule.

I've been told the way to grab an electric fence to test it is with the back of your hand -- use the front, and your hand will automatically contract if it is live, around the wire.

Re: Fan....Push or Pull?
Another reason for push is that if the area is dusty, and the fan is blowing out, air will be drawn in through the other gaps in the cab -- meaning dust will build up in all the other gaps, rather than being drawn through a fan that can be filtered if need be.

Re: News paper clipping LOL
Top Gear did a segment years ago about some fulla who built a drag car in his kitchen, from scratch. And his kitchen had no door big enough to get said car out. But it was a nice warm room out of the rain, so he just kept building it after he realised this. I think that half of the segment consisted...

Re: Trainwreck.com change
Unbelievable how some wood can just look that good naturally. Before I started learning about guitars, I would have sworn that was some kind of veneer or vinyl.
Pretty nice lookin' thing. The old english font does nothing for me, though, too much forced exposure to "gangsta" stuff at work.
