Re: Watts Audio
With Watts, sometimes it's fast, sometimes slow. I always order a little ahead with them.

Re: AO 35 into Spitfire master volume issue
I remember someone swearing somewhere that this MV only sounds good with cathode bias, and NFB. Don't remember if there was even an explanation, but I liked hearing that cause it sure sounded like crap in my fixed bias NFB amplifier!

Re: Necessary safety features
You can always use silver solder, which is easy to work with. Of course it's okay to a non-CE amp in Europe, just not import one, and I believe it's okay to import used or vintage equipment. There are many loop holes for small builders, but when you're as big as Dr.Z, that's when you have to buckle ...

Re: Necessary safety features
Ground the input jack. This way if high voltage ever gets on the grid of the first preamp tube, it doesn't get to you. This is convienient for me because I use the input jack as the main 'star' point for all my signal grounds. I use a toothed lock washer to secure the jack, and run a short extra gro...

This seems like a sarcastic label for a DIY ampNo user servicable parts inside. Service by a qualified technician only.

Re: Ceramic Sockets?
No issues with microphonics, but have had some crack when 'cranking' them down to the chassis - my fault really for being a brute. I now prefer Beltons mainly because of the 2-hole solder lugs, so I don't have to turn the amp sideways to fill the lug with solder. I have had some frustration, however...

Looks cool - the venting in the front reminds me of Sunn Model T. Where'd ya get the perforated sheet metal?

Re: Nichicon Filter Caps
I'm currently using the VZ series of Nichicons, and just stacking some 315v/100uf caps for a 500vdc main B+ node. With these I can fit all filter caps on the board, making for easy grounding layout and assembly. Plus they are cheap as $#*t!

Re: Do You Twist Your Wires from Bias Resistors to Power Tubes ?
I've done it that way, where the grids of the power tubes were connected by only the grid stoppers coming from the coupling caps on the board. Don't have a pic, but it wasn't that exciting, and not worth the other layout compromises I had to make. I'm realizing with each build where I have to really...

So those have 3/8" long bushings like the Switchcraft long-bushing jacks? ...I've been having trouble with the shorting switch on them as well. bummer.

Re: Magnetic Componants Inc Transformers?
I'm wondering if the hot transformers are more a product of the power tubes transferring heat. After an hour or so of operation, those tubes get cooking hot and could be transferring heat to all around them. Especially in a tubes down amp. No, definitely not heat from the power tubes in my case. To...

Re: Magnetic Componants Inc Transformers?
150ma is for each half of the HV winding. That said, every build I've done with them, the PT gets hot as hell. Posted about it in another thread, but I actually wrote the company about the heat, and they assured me that the high temperature was not only typical, but that the insulation could easily ...

Re: De-solder tools
I have the one that the OP has, which does have a Teflon tip. It does clog occasionally, but it's easy to open up and empty out. I've literally desoldered two amps with it, and it only cost $5 or so. Didn't realize it got much fancier than the one you have!

Re: Road cases
If your not taking it on a plane (needs to be ATA approved), you might consider making your own. Finding one that's the right size for a TW may be impossible, and I have a feeling that once you see the quotes for a custom head case, you may think that money is better spent elsewhere, like towards a ...
