Re: Tone Control
My favorite is in the DR. Z Maz, where the tone knob is just the AC30 hi-cut. The amp is designed so the noon setting feels pretty balanced.

Yes, that is very cool they produce them in Canada to this day, but man, that is just slightly different from my methods. haha.

Re: Bias pots
How did you set the sweep to only be only 10ma? Thanks. It's just two pots in series wired as variable resistors to ground after a 56k bias resistor. The board trimmer which is connected directly to ground fine tunes the range of the external pot. Also, normally on the front end of the bias circuit...

Re: Vote for your favorite OPT
You should crank it for a good 45 minutes, and tell me if the PT's hot - Now I'm paranoid all over again! However, I have built 3 amps with these, and they all get equally hot, so I just don't think you are rocking hard enough for long enough! haha.

Re: Vote for your favorite OPT
Having you been using the Marshall style trannies? My builds have been non-master volume types, unlike Dumbles, so perhaps the power tubes are just being pushed harder? I don't know... The response was fine for me, and with my little knowledge of transformer design, I am willing to trust the authori...

Re: Vote for your favorite OPT
I don't want to troll, honestlty. Very Happy My best sounding amp has a New Sensor Corporation generic Marshall 100W OT in it. It is the only amp I ever built with a NSC OT, and my favorite one out of every single amp I have ever played. I will never know whether the OT is to be credited for that d...

Re: LANEY AMPS
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but hiss will only come from tubes or resistors, and I believe you'll be able to find the culprit with a little more good detctive work. And don't rely on the authority of "tested" tubes or whatever. I've gotten a handful of JJ 12AX7s from one of their most trusted dea...

Re: Cut and Presence Controls
I find the cut control to be redundant in an amp with a presence and treble control. It does do something a little a different, but between the treble, presence, and tone control on the guitar I can get pretty much what a cut control would do. I do think it's valuable, however, in a non-NFB amp, esp...

To clarify; they are sold through Triode Electronics, Amp Parts Direct, and are the generic unmarked made in USA transformers from CE/AES. They may be available as generic replacements from other too...

Re: Anybody Try These?
I'd like to give those a try - why not? About physical size of caps: I remember Kevin O'Connor writing something like, 'If you want to make smaller parts sound like bigger ones, just make a more spacious layout.' I think he was suggesting that more spacing between certain components can reduce cross...

Re: jmp 50watt with magnetic components transformer set
Well, I didn't do any A/B testing, but I did just finish a new Plexi style build with Magnetic Components' 100-watt Marshall PT (I heard the 50's can run a little hot), and 50-watt OT. Man, this thing sounds sweet! Highly recommended.

Condolences to the Mike, and MC, it's very inspirational to know that you're staying positive, and soldering away to ease the pain. Good luck to you.

Re: The LaMar (LarMar) PPIMV in an Express
You will find, however, Larry saying that he does not use this master volume himself. If you go to the Metroamp forum you can read 82 pages of posts and not find one bad reaction to the LaMar PPIMV. Eh?
