Re: Princeton Reverb clone treble cap leakage
yes at higher frequency the cap 'Q' becomes more important when passing audio signals. not all caps are designed for a high 'Q'.

Re: Favourite NOS Carbon and Metal resistors for balckface
use carbon comps only where you have a large voltage swing, to generate even harmonics, this is usually the second or third stage plate resistor, keeping power rating close to its working range also increases the 2ND harmonic. This to me gives good tone while lowering the noise floor. Physics

Re: fender deluxe homemade too bright and clean
+1 on the bright cap 0.47 pf to 500 pf high pass, to your own taste. Leo designed this to be a clean amp, but can distort if stressed. +2 Leo.

Re: Favourite NOS Carbon and Metal resistors for balckface
Bright cap I like polystyrene seems a little smoother to me, some people even mix two, this is highly subjective and a personal preference.

I think one cathode resistor generates more 2nd harmonics -- yeah!!!

Re: test for output transformer
Thanks for all the help everyone, I'm kind of embarrassed to say I found the problem. Instead of using the usual 12A switchcraft phone jacks I used the RadioShack closed circuit ones I already had in my drawer, I forgot why they were still there, the pinout is different and I remembered having this ...

Re: test for output transformer
tried what you suggested to test the pi output, nothing. I wish my scope still worked so I could signal trace. I never had an amp that made zero noise. I think I better start looking for a scope. The output transformer should still work without the ultra linear leads attached (blu/wht, brn/wht)? tha...

test for output transformer
Just built a deluxe reverb, voltages look fine but absolutely dead quiet, I think I might have bad output transformer. Its an ultra linear type but I'm just using the brown and blue on the primary reading (40 ohms , 20 ohms to center tap). On the secondary I'm reading 1.5 Ohms (8 ohm tap).these valu...

Re: Swirl/Shoosh in 4-4-0
on the express as your note decays your power supply noise will increase with no master volume. I would look at Supply caps. Solen are big but work nice as supply caps ad a choke as a pi filter. The express is an extremely sensitive circuit, no grid stoppers, or any attenuation everything matters. T...

Re: Rocket Issues
If you like experimenting, try a 680r cathode bias in the ltpi instead of 1k2 . This warms the bias up. Also use 10k to 47k grid stoppers in el84's , this will smooth the distortion a bit, if you like to dime it, a solid state rect. help with any sagging. I guess Brian May adds a Large choke before ...
