Re: Trainwreck Champ ? (Dirty Little Monster)
This is what puts me off building a single ended amplifier for myself. Once I add up the cost of the transformers and parts I feel like I may as well go back to push pull. Maybe one day. Your amp sounds good in those clips though and yes low wattage amps do seem to be much more acceptable nowadays....

Re: Trainwreck Champ ? (Dirty Little Monster)
I know Hogy from Komet built one but was only happy with it after much tweaking. I've never seen a schematic or gut shot. Yes. I had that Champ in my possession for a year or so. Didn't like it as-is. It had a tiny OT from an old RCA record console. Ken went through prototyping a much bigger, prope...

Re: Tweed Deluxe Silk Screen
Who already has a setup to do this but chassis fabricators? I'd start inquiring about chassis resellers and other experts in tweed Deluxe repros, but maybe you already contacted them? Yes, I contacted several manufacturers, including Fender, and got no replies. My guess is that most of the kit buil...

Re: Tweed Deluxe Silk Screen
Thanks for all the tips! I'm hellbent on doing this the right way, or not at all. I'm capable and willing to disassemble the amp down to the bare chassis, if needed. My thought was that somebody might be set up for this already. If not, I can do it the hard way by scanning an intact Tweed Deluxe cha...

Re: Tweed Deluxe Silk Screen
Hogy I am thinking a thin, clear acrylic faceplate may be your best bet to not devalue your amp. Find someone with Visio skills and have FedEx print a white on clear plate for you(make sure it's mirror printed correctly). They can print from a 100% scaled pdf of your design. Another option is to fi...

Tweed Deluxe Silk Screen
Hey y'all, I'm looking for somebody who can silk screen a Tweed Deluxe chassis. With so many Deluxe build kits available, somebody must be able to do this. This is a real 1960 Deluxe I've owned for over 20 years, and it's my favorite. Unfortunately, a previous owner polished all the lettering off th...

Re: Songwriter Group Build -- Not Gonna Happen
While we have Hogy's attention I've wondered what the story is with Mark Knopfler. He was a big Ken Fischer fan, then he's using Komet and then he settles on using Reinhardt amps. One amp in particular was very Rocket like with a mid control. Mark Knopfler still uses his Komets, this video is just ...

Re: Songwriter Group Build -- Not Gonna Happen
[quote="Zippy" Now that the switch issue has been addressed, perhaps you could respond to this more on-topic question. Maybe you missed it before. Could we consider an alternative take on this thread? Komet still pays royalties for that circuit. You're not only stealing from me, you're stealing from...

Re: Songwriter Group Build -- Not Gonna Happen
Oh please. My switch is bigger than your switch? Seriously? You're not understanding any of this. The point is, the DC rating of commonly used switches is very low. Yet, every amp manufacturer in history has used them as standby switches to switch B+ (DC) well in excess of 10 or 15 times their rati...

Mountain DPST 6A/125VAC; 3A/250VAC for standby and power switch. What's the DC rating of that switch? What B+ voltage are you switching with it? 478vdc Electrical Specifications: • Rating: 6A/125VAC; 3A/250VAC • Contact Resistance: 50mΩ Max. • Insulation Resistance: 500VDC 100MΩ Min. • Di...

The Fast/Gradual switch and the Standby switch have something in common.rooster wrote:Aren't we talking about the fast-slow switch?

I guess you think it's ok to have close to 300 volts on a 28v rated switch.
Interesting point.
Let me ask you this, on those Komet and Trainwreck ripoff amps you make and sell, what do you use for a Standby switch?

Re: Songwriter Group Build -- Not Gonna Happen
We won't assume that you have class again though so...no worries! But you're perfectly ready to assume that I threaten people behind the scenes? Let me quote "Bob Simpson"... Well I never said that but whatever. Sorry, my bad. I thought by "we" you meant the forum collective. And that's who I addre...

A heartfelt "Bob Simpson" to you as well!
