Re: Mystery Output transformer

That's my gut feeling.
The amp actually sounds ok – pretty loud. The single output was wired black & orange – 37.6 : 1 into 8 ohms.

Re: Mystery Output transformer

Check what I have...

The chart on the right is a known OT. Primary impedances in a similar range are grouped by colour.

I can't find any such pattern in the chart on the left, my OT.

Mystery Output transformer

First time ever trying to decode a suspect OT. Selmer 30SV – someone modded it from EL506 to EL34 and swapped in a replacement OT. Had a hunch it was wired incorrectly... Secondary. 3 taps. Four wires are Black, Brown, Orange, Green. Black was wired common. FADED HAND-WRITING on the casing, I can ju...

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

Well here's what I did and it sounds just fine. Amp belongs to someone else, so it's not my money to spend. May not look very pretty, but it sounds good and it's fairly solid. Many thanks to all who gave suggestions, much appreciated. [img:800:261]https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7ZdR7trCf78/T7D2s...

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

You may have to swap out the original cap for a higher value so you wind up with the same capacitance you started with. Good call. Looking good so far. I did some PTP avoiding direct contact between the board and pot wipers using existing caps. (No new components yet.) No more crackle with pot rota...

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

Yes, I would assume it would take a long time to dry out, as it probably took quite some time to get 'wet'. Most sensible option would be to get the HT resistors off the board. Stands to reason that's where the rogue voltages are coming from. Or just add a few extra coupling capacitors to block any ...

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

Rice is in the cupboard. That's science enough for me.

I stir-fried the amp with noodles and broccoli.

Actually, the amp is in a fairly dry room at the moment and it's awaiting some chianti and fava beans.

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

AC? This is Ireland. We've yet to discover dry weather! Stuck it in front of a blow heater for 20 minutes. I fired it back up to see if there was any difference, and where once there was 12 volts, i was now seeing 30. But that dropped as things cooled a little. Now my daughter's sitting on me, so it...

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

There shall be a minimum of rebuilding, so no new boards.

The rice isn't a bad idea. In theory it should work.

However, I am opting for waving a hair-dryer over its guts for a while; see if that makes any difference.

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

I know what you mean, but it's not that.

I was able to fix one problem by bypassing the board altogether.

It all started with the 'I think that pot is dirty' scenario, which led to voltages all over the place.

Re: HiWatt Leaky DC

The circuit board material must have become conductive, sort of like old Fender's do. Usually a result of moisture wicking into the board. That's interesting, because the other issue with this amp is corrosion. Rusty TX leaves, bad connections in sockets. Out of curiosity, which old Fenders are you...

HiWatt Leaky DC

You can't make this stuff up. A while ago, I came to grips with a Marshall whose PCB was leaking DC with temperature. I'm inside a HiWatt DG-103, a really lovely-looking build, and the epoxy (or whatever the stuff is, that separates the turrets) is indeed leaking DC. I had to pinch myself three or f...

Boss Pedal - little help?

I have a GE6 EQ pedal and the audio seems to work fine, but the indicator won't stay on. I've recooked some joints, but can't find anything obvious.

My SS knowledge is pretty limited, so i'm wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.
