Re: Speaker ohms low?

Agree and add: being a subwoofer meaning lots of movement you might have some bad contact such as cracked/bad soldering at terminals, twisted but not soldered cable connections getting "rusty"(whatever copper becomes) , loose crimped connectors, or if it's a combo cabinet, remember that subwoofer sh...

Re: Check this Flocking stuff out!

Looks like carpet but see there's absolutely not cuts or joints, specially on corners or the back panel. [img:2136:1424]http://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/normal/hughes-kettner-attax-100-1993-series-386123.jpg[/img] Looks great... until you want to do a quick speaker swap.  That spe...

Re: Check this Flocking stuff out!

FWIW Hughes and Kettner used it extensively on their Guitar and Bass Combos. Problem is that they applied it so well that ebverybody thinks it's carpet. Traynor also used it on some of their PA equipment. EDIT: H&K Attax40 & 100 Looks like carpet but see there's absolutely not cuts or joints, specia...

He also did ... but I still remember the (Guitar Player?) article where he or a roadie says that "when EV stopped making the SRO they sent people to buy all they could, before they fully disappeared from the shops" or something very close to that.

Re: speaker power handling

I saw Carlos Santana blow the speakers in his Boogie's twice in one show at the Fillmore east back in the day( He had to finish the night with a Twin) I worked in a repair center at the time and a customer walked in with a Boogie with a blown speaker. It had a JBL D120 in it>>>The customer said "Wh...

Re: DIY piezo pickup pre-amp?

Just use the simplest single FET buffer, you don't actually need *gain* but simply to stop *loss* :( of which you have a lot right now. 1M input impedance is fine for 90% Piezos out there and 3M3 will accomodate up to 98% . If yours needs more, junk it and get a better one ;) The tinbox one is fine,...

Re: Fender speakers (Oxford 12L6)

Ouch.

I've sold many through the years.

Twin owners upgrade and leave old original ones behind.

I make a cabinet and quickly sell them.

In fact, there are better but they are quite usable.

Re: Measured Impedance of Speakers

Cheap meters are not compensated for the series resistance added by: wires / selector switch contacts / probe tips which may not make perfect contact. To boot, he's not measuring straight at the speaker terminals but somewhere out of the picture the red/black wires are connected to green crocodile c...

Re: Fender speakers (Oxford 12L6)

The OP stated he is in New Zealand and that those Oxford speakers, most certainly pulled from a Twin or similar are what's available. Suggesting WGS, Celestion,EV or Eminence is fine, but hardly practical. That said, those Oxfords aren't horrible either, they were good enough for Fender at least and...

Re: Cutting Tolex with a Vinyl Plotter/Cutter

You mean pre-cutting Tolex before applying it to the cabinet? Saves time, but in a high volume application, where you make lots of any given model. Mesa Boogie does it, but they use a giant "cookie cutter" die. It also demands a non-Tolex-stretching glue, so no solvent based contact cement for you. ...
