That looks like a nice one Erwin!

For an "enthusiast" model you may consider a Hakko FX888D. It doesn't cycle off automatically but is hot in less than a minute and has temp control. You can turn it higher for soldering jacks and chassis grounds and lower for components.

Immediately, I see you don't have your heaters wired up. That is typically not shown on layouts bc it is assumed the builder knows that. That would not cause your smoking resistor. Hi Dan, its all looking fantastic and coming together quickly. Btw, how have you grounded your output jacks? A bit more progress, all iron mounted and most of the power amp wired up. I put a little ring of shrink tube on one lead of the choke to keep it straight when swapping later.
