Re: Mr. Gerald Weber almost left us...LOL

helps explain a lot  Remembered reading this below, which might explain what he was doing on the phone, at least part of the time: http://www.thdelectronics.com/pdf%20stuff/TQRInterview.pdf I'm guessing he was calling people like Andy Marshall, Ken Fischer, and whomever in order to obtain his '...

Re: More capacitor

Another fake cap hecho in China: [img:800:514]http://media.lelombrik.net/27001-27500/93c9a2528c11f2683c80fed39060b66992dce300.jpg[/img] Wonder if the Rubycon is a fake too. the inside cap looks older, so I suppose if you are an outfit making fake caps, you have a good reason to find (and purchase) ...

Re: Inexpensive Electrolytic Capacitors

FWIW one of the fake caps is a "Rubycon YK", axial. In mind, any "new made in Japan" or Japanese manf.'ed axial cap sets off alarm bells, since AFAIK Japanese manfs. discontinued axial package alu electros, so unless it's actually old stock or something, that should be one indication of a suspect it...

Re: More capacitor

I saw on a tv program segment fake "made in Japan" spark plugs being made in a tin shack in China. The Chinese authorities apparently do go after them but from what I gathered, part of the problem was they don't have enough resources. I've also seen info on a Japanese solder manf. warning how there ...

Re: New Jimi Hendrix Video

god, you guys are so lazy!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wqTv9ojxsI apparently it's not new, but just footage from the isle of wight edited/re-mixed into a sort of story of how it might have looked had jimi performed at glastonbury. Not that exciting (IMHO) but maybe it will help turn...

Re: Mold growing on wiring

:!: another thing (which might be very important since this concerns personal safety so someone who knows please jump in and confirm or not) it was my understanding that mixing bleach and alcohol produces a very noxious and lethal poison, so (if that is true) BE VERY CAREFUL that you don't mix, try ...

Re: Mold growing on wiring

how about ethanol. Doesn't it kill mold? Putting amps, etc. in a big plastic bag might be a good idea for long storage (basically to try to keep it from being damp). Al electros will have gone un-formed too.

Re: Capacitors and resistance

to deal with noise, read about layout, grounding, basic theory. Lots of people don't bother and I suppose if they are working from set instructions that are confirmed, etc. it can work but it's just basically better to know than not.

Re: Marshall Bluesbreaker problem

I did some googling on that stuff and I found it's called "damping grease" and it comes in different levels of viscosity. I don't think it's typically conductive but perhaps some are. Also used for switches (also moving parts such as on cameras) and sometimes (as commented on above) there can be a b...

Re: RN65 metal films are they really that much beter ?

the basic problem might be something like trying to reduce a subjective result down to some formula, such as "use X here, use Y there". A lot of people go on forums asking, "What is the best/are the best parts, etc. to use for ABC?" so maybe that is the underlying thinking. re:CC in Marshalls, from ...

Re: So, if changing cap brands...

hmm... you know I just thought that it would be cool to have an online temple of amp bling. A shrine to amps having the most outrageously expensive or rare components. An orgy of fetishism and self-indulgence. Sick sick sick.

Re: So, if changing cap brands...

dude! that's completey wrong. It's gotta SOUND scientific. re: the sozos, they don't seem to be poor quality or anything. Price doesn't look too bad. Some of the mustard mythology doesn't make sense however. For example, they were not the only cap used by Marshall in the original old amps. Fac...
