Re: EL84hrm

Ciao RP, grazie per la risposta. I'm thinking that Mat's 86 Special preamp with a double single-ended EL84 power section would be cool. I see reference to a "Super SE" power section but I've not been able to find any info on it, or the 86 Special Duet, other than the purposed Duet schematic with a P...

Re: EL84hrm

Has anyone actually built the duet version of the 86 Special? Are there photos?

Re: EL84hrm

I second that request, are there gut shots of the original single tube version as well as the duet (2-el84) version?
Thanks

Re: Blues Jr gut and rebuild

Looking good Mark, great idea. Now.... How about a Lighting Reverb in a BJr chassis so you can use up more of those holes control panel.

Re: Blues Jr - 6V6 mod

Assuming you have the cream board version, the latest version of the Billm adjustable mod kit is super simple to install (much easier than the earlier ones). The biggest task is pulling the top of the PC board out to get access to the back. If you want more horsepower, the Billm "clean boost kit" is...

Re: Blues Jr - 6V6 mod

I'm with stevem, I've modded a number of BJrs and the adjustable bias mod is the gateway to making the amp more usable. I don't really get the 6V6 mod (although with 6L6s might be cool) over the EL-84s. You'll need to change the transformers for that mod anyway and once you've done all the "standard...

Re: F*#king 1/4" phone plugs!

My guess is that the older "jacks" have more experience and are just better at making contact with the sweet spot. Also, there is a lot more "corrosion" out there these days and the newer jacks have to deal with that. I'm just sayin...

BTW, I like Switchcraft products.

Re: weber 10" alnico ?

I use to think it was sort of a myth too until I tried using Ted Weber's process on a new Jensen C10Q. That speaker has a reputation for being "tight" with poor bass response when new. I wondered if I would be able to discern a real improvement during the break-in process. To my surprise, the speake...

Re: weber 10" alnico ?

Jensen just announced the Jensen P10R-F. Designed in collaberation with Fender to replicate the P10R from the '50s.

Re: weber 10" alnico ?

I was intending to use the Eminence lil buddy in an amp I'm marketing when I saw Rob Perez from CE Dist. at the NAMM show and he convinced me to give the (then new) Falcon Jet 10 a try. What a shocker...the over-all tone and the bottom end are really great. They are nothing like the other Jensen 10"...
