Re: DC power supply

Thanks to both of you for the reply. I’ll have to take another look at those specs. I was curious if anyone had a “go to” part that was similar and cheap and known to work in guitar amp builds. Thanks again!

DC power supply

Hi everyone! I’m dreaming up a new project and I thought a product like this might simplify things. Has anyone used anything similar to this for a quick and dirty relay or dc heater supply? https://www.jameco.com/z/IRM-20-12-MEAN-WELL-AC-to-DC-Power-Supply-Encapsulated-Single-Output-12-Volts-1-8-Amp...

Re: Friedman BE50 based build

This looks like a really great build. What do relays 3&4 accomplish looking at the be50 deluxe schematic? Also, if one was to build a slightly stripped down version, what could be left out and what would be essential? I'm looking for a project for a 50w Marshall transformer set and this seems like a...

Re: NOS Dale RN65D vs New RN65D's

Thanks for all of the great knowledge and experience being shared here on this site. I'm not usually the type to give advice or to preach to others but... Remember, we're only talking about the difference between resistors in guitar amplifiers! I'm sure that regardless of the opinions about a few so...

Re: 18- 20 watt 2 EL-84 Liverpool based design

I built a 2 x el84 amp loosely based on a rocket with this OT and it sounded great! Very loud as well. http://www.classictone.net/40-18090.html

Re: Gibson tremolo oscillator - where's the cathode resistor?

I'm afraid that the most sophisticated piece of test equipment that I possess is an extech muiltimeter that I bought used on eBay. My build experience is limited to cutting and pasting parts of different circuits together and tweaking from there. I appreciate all of the knowledge and advice that I c...

Re: Gibson tremolo oscillator - where's the cathode resistor?

The cathode is at zero volts (ground), but the grid becomes negative. See here under section 1-33: http://www.rfcafe.com/references/electrical/NEETS-Modules/NEETS-Module-06-1-31-1-40.htm Martin, Thanks for the link. That was a great explanation of how the tube can operate. I'm thinking of building ...

Re: Gibson tremolo oscillator - where's the cathode resistor?

Martin,
I'm confused as to how the cathode could be more positive than the grid? Is that unimportant in this application?

Gibson tremolo oscillator - where's the cathode resistor?

image.jpeg Hi all, A few years back I fixed a Gibson ga-15rvt that someone had given to my son's guitar teacher. I remember the reverb and especially the tremolo sounding pretty good on this amp. I have been looking at the schematic and it appears that the cathode on the oscillator is connected to ...

Re: KT66 grid leak resistors

Martin & Roe,
Thanks for the replies. Everything sounds great and seems to be fine. I wasn't sure if once pushed, things would start to melt down. That' s where experience is important.
Thanks again

KT66 grid leak resistors

Hi everyone, I wanted to find out the general consensus on grid leaks on KT66 tubes. I just built an amp with 2 x EL34L tubes push-pull, fixed bias, with a Larmar 250K//2.2M PPIMV. I changed to a set of Valve Art KT66s biased at 35ma with ~450V on the plates. I only looked at the data sheet after in...

Re: 60/40 solder. What brand (what dia.?)

What diameter solder is everyone using? I too started with some big fat radio shack solder. When I ran out I picked up some really thin .025 MG 63/37 solder thinking it would be more precise. A few years later, I'm not so sure.

Martin,
I saw that on his site. I was referencing his power supply book. Is there much of a difference in function?
