Re: Capacitor Outside Foil Placement Dumble

Here is a great article on the subject. I ran across them in about 2003 as I was researching to build my first kinda clone. http://www.aikenamps.com/index.php/where-to-connect-the-outside-foil-on-capacitors I even gave GIl Ayan an oscilloscope so that he could test his caps. Gil was a lot of help fo...

Re: SSS #004 has a new owner

I think I found this on Instagram. Don't know who originally separated the combo, but Henry used it as a combo for sometime when he owned it. AN built a matching 2 x 12 for a previous owner. It wasn't cheap when he sold it, I'm sure JM got the celebrity discount. I played that amp at Henry's house ...

I wondered the same, didn't see them listed.

Re: Debugging help, please - 6V6 ODS 102 (not a new amp)

+1 on that! I had that problem more than once a few years ago with Switchcraft send & return jacks. I changed to the Mil-Spec Switchcraft jacks, cost twice as much but have solid silverplated contacts on the shorting pin--no more problems. Also I think the steel is stiffer too. I now use them exclu...

To my ears it sounds more vibration induced. But that is just me, not sure how you are testing it.

Also check your send and return jacks, if they are switchcraft, make sure the switched connections are truly O ohms. Been bit more times than I would like to admit.

Re: Debugging help, please - 6V6 ODS 102 (not a new amp)

Since it was working previously, it wouldn't be a lead dress issue. More likely a failed component. A scope would be the tool of choice for isolating it. I agree, hook a scope to the send jack of the loop to determine if the noise is before or after the loop. You can also plug your guitar straight ...

He rarely badged amps or cabs, but he usually signed them on the inside.

Some early dumbles had the Oval logo which I think is from the Santa Cruz era.

Re: Custom Preamp Project

This is similar to what I did, but i mounted the boards Dumbleator style. Preamps can be tough with noise!I had to mess around with the grounding for quite a while. Shopping for a PCB house now for mine. I also did a passive and buffered output, with a full loop. Mine looks much more crude  Yo...

Re: 5/16 Tip Jack Part Number

Here is the way I implement the Bias set up on the Super Overdrive II and Overdrive Deluxe amps.

Simple and works. The spacing is 3/4" so a standard banana plug fits between the test points.

Bias adjustments are 10 turn pots behind the grommets.

I had heyboer build me a custom set of 200W iron. The power transformer has two sets of HV secondaries, one of the output section, the section is for he preamps through phase splitter. Dual filiaments, 40 v low voltage winding, 90V bias windings and a sledge a matic lol.

Re: 5/16 Tip Jack Part Number

Just looked at CE's drawing on the chassis. According to that the hole size is 0.25" x 3 locations.

I have the same chassis in my shop I will test fit the Cinch to it.

The outsize deminsion is .375" so it will cover any excess. I use the banana jack version of this same test point. So I can test fit it later, still at my day gig.
