Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter
Great catch on the output couplers both of you, I hadn't noticed that. I did see that he dropped the last filter on this amp though. Dr D, you should build one of these. I love mine You will be the death of me! LOl. I do have a donor amp that I could use. Tell me more! I take it that it is really a...

...soft clipping on the preamp side, into beautiful, symmetrical clipping from the 6V6 power section. That suggests a warm, saturated tone in the preamp bias followed by a more symmetrical centre bias in the cathodyne. Giving it a harder, grainier, more high-gain sounding drive. The photos have a p...

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter
The layout looks different to the photos posted by Charlie W. The output couplers also look skinnier on the Carter amp. Interesting!

Re: Tweedle Dee on Carter
Hey Ian, interesting find and interesting story. He clearly held his position in commercial terms to the bitter end. I haven't build one of these. I will have to check out how close this is to the information we already have on the forum.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: 2nd gen ODS with Erwin chassis.
I said that I was about to receive some 70s Dale RN65cs and indeed they came, thanks to the generousity of a fellow forumite. I put them on the plates of V1, V2 and in the PI about a week or so ago. The difference in tone is quite astonishing…..in a very good way! At first, I wasn’t too sure that I ...

Re: Bluesmaster HRM question:
IMO the Mega boost, ie complete lifting of the tone stack, is essential in the blues master. The mega boost is used in conjunction with the OD so that the EQ of the OD is set by the HRM stack, thus following a flat EQ from the clean channel which has no EQ influence on the OD. Hope that makes sense!

This was my fire up bible back in the day, along with a bulb limiter.

Even better! Read and read again. Never forget that you are messing with serious voltages.

Re: Starting to populate the chassis....
Hi, you need to take a deep breath and walk away from it for a day or so. Then, come back to the chassis and systematically work your way through the circuit from the input to the output jacks and check and double check your connections (using your multimeter for continuity testing) and values of co...

Re: 2nd Gen Build
Hi Dan, its all looking fantastic and coming together quickly. Btw, how have you grounded your output jacks? I ended up grounding the loop on the pots grounding bar and the output jacks to a ground lug next V4. Hope that helps in some way.

Finished up all of the wiring before adding iron and boards. PXL_20240330_203940665.jpg PXL_20240330_204008224.jpg Choke is from a 1966 Bassman, measuring 95.5 ohms resistance and 3.193H inductance. Also bought a peak atlas LCR meter. Way more accurate on capacitance than my meters and none of mine...

Re: Bluesmaster HRM question:
Oh, ok - the 9.09k is correct then? Thanks Martin! And a another quick follow-up: If building as a 50w, would this be another case of running the NFB to the 8 ohm tap on the impedance switch or would I stick with the 4 ohm if all the values still match the original circuit and this would apply only...

I tried the same with the grill cloth (wetting it) and it worked great.
Great job on getting the half diamonds in the top left corner (same as HAD )

Re: 2nd gen ODS with Erwin chassis.
I finally got around to finishing the combo cab. The sides are made from recycled solid timber which I think is a light weight hardwood of some sort. The front baffle was initially made from the same timber but it proved to be too unstable with a big hole in the middle of it. The front is now 18mm b...

Re: High-plate Skyline build
That first resistor in the dropping string surprised me. It’s what made me wonder if it had a particularly high B+. Very interesting amp……and you have confirmed it sounds good too! Tempted to convert a Bluesmaster build of mine into something similar.
