Re: 2nd gen ODS with Erwin chassis.

Really enjoying this amp. In the meantime I have made a headshell and combo cab (just need to make a front baffle to complete). Details of the circuit to date to follow, including a master (hope Erwin doesn’t mind me drilling his lovely chassis :? ). Lovely and great looking amp. That master is sim...

Re: 2nd Gen Build

Thanks for all of the wire suggestions, I have favorited those for the next time I place an order. Been slow going on the amp while I am swamped at work. But wanted to post a little progress. Re: C-lator hum

"You have tried changing the tube, correct?"

This was my issue. I spent days trying to solve what i thought was a ground loop issue. Changed the valve and everything went quiet.

Re: 2nd Gen Build Started (that didn’t take long…)

Great results, well done. Having just build a 2nd gen amp, it was interesting to follow your experiences. If I could make a comment on voltages, you may find this helpful. I found that the V1 and V2 plate voltages were particularly sensitive to the performance of the amp. With Hammond iron also, I ...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

Looks great so far. I would strongly recommend that you have an FET as it is very useful in this circuit. The secret, IMHO, is to bias the FET with low headroom using a 8k2 or 10K voltage divider (R1). Martin Manning has some great instructions to do this.

You may find this thread interesting: https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11542&p=122933&hilit=David+lindley#p122933 You will note the 12AX7 tube in the PI slot of ODS #002. There are also interviews on the interwebs with David Lindley stating that HAD updated #002 from time to time, bu...

Re: Dumble ODS #22

Screen Shot 2024-01-29 at 15.31.48.png Looking again at the chassis, I've just noticed the single relay mounted under the chassis. very much a feature of the 2nd/3rd gen amps. This confuses me further as to when this amp was built and in turn what design it could be. Perhaps it is a late 70s transi...

Re: Dumble ODS #22

Slight derail, but my thoughts on your sound question: While I recognize all of these amps do sound different, I think they can be dialed in to get relatively similar tones, especially considering digital compression, etc. on our ultimate end of listening. I believe these different circuits will "fe...

Re: Dumble ODS #22

I agree this amp sounds fantastic. Regarding the presence pot and mid switch...maybe a similar arrangement to #093 but with the pot mounted externally rather than a trimmer on the board. srvdumbonetb2.jpg P.s. I am not sure why the filename for this picture, but afaik it has no connection to SRV. -...

Re: Dumble ODS #22

Thank you Dan and Charlie for your replies. The silver face chassis is perhaps a bit misleading. I will would like someone to say whether the amp sounds, say, like a 2nd, 3rd or maybe 4th generation amp. I can get a very similar tone with my recent 70s build, but wonder if there is a bit more to thi...
