Re: Ceriatone Prinzetone Tranny Recommendations
The Princeton uses a 8000ohm primary while most 5E3s use a 6600ohm The Hammond 5E3 replacement is the 1750H (1760 if you want multiple output impedance taps) Or you can get the 1750/1760E if you want a "true" Princeton 8000ohm primary. I know some manufacturers make OTs with a 6600 and a 8800 primar...

Re: jmp 50watt with magnetic components transformer set
I also have used the g12t/75 speakers for years, then changed to the scumbacks. The g12t/75s i thought are not bad, they just had a harsh frequence i could not dial out. That was with my then tsl60 head. I have recently tried v30 and g12h in a 2x12 box, i think that is a nice combination, it is lik...

Re: jmp 50watt with magnetic components transformer set
It is just i have heard a couple of times poeple saying that there pt don't get hot, then i started to think i have done something wrong, but now i think i don't have anything to worry about. What do you think of the g12t/75 speakers? I started really liking them after moving them to a 2X12. Mine a...

Re: jmp 50watt with magnetic components transformer set
Its strange that yours doesn't get hot all my pt are hot after a gig. what sort of speaker box have you got Perhaps I'm not playing loud enough  This amp is so loud, I can barely open it, especially since putting KT77s in it. Perhaps too we have a different definition of hot. It does get warm,...

Re: jmp 50watt with magnetic components transformer set
Hi, Which hammond are you using. The one i have is the 290gx, and it also has 150ma. It is exactly the same as the mc, right down to the same wiring code. Thanks Dukeamps :) I think I've mentionned this before, but I have a 290GX that I bought a year ago and it says 213mA on it. For some reason, th...

Re: can i use 6550's?
And this is based on what? Do you have a copy of this load line that is the same for all tubes? Does it work with all voltages and P to P impedances? I sure would like to see it. Take a pair of EL34's. B+ 470. 70% bias gives 75 ma. current draw at idle. Take a pair of 6550's. B+ 470. 70% bias gives...

Re: can i use 6550's?
As I said, the Hammond 290GX in my 50W built, which is now rated at 150mA by Hammond doesn't get hot at all and doesn't sag. And people seem to be forgetting that tubes don't "pull current", they just regulate it. Think about your load line, they are the exact same no matter the tube. The only diffe...

Re: can i use 6550's?
This PT was designed specifically for a 2xEL34 marshall ! How can they sell it is thats true? I guess 6550's are out of the question, but EL34's?! Interesting fact, I have a Hammond 290GX in my 50W Marshall clone. It clearly says 213mA on it, yet the new units shipping now say 150mA. They're the ex...

Re: explain fender's hi and low inputs to me
It also means that on the Low input, the input impedance is lowered to 136k instead of 1M, loading the guitar's pickup more (although this doesn't matter anymore if you have a buffered pedal between the guitar and amp)

Re: Humdinger with center-tapped heater winding
I believe DC elevation sorts of nullify the need to balance both sides. I could be wrong, but it seems logical to me.

Re: Marshall JCM2000 DSL Popping on powering down
don't you hate it when work feels like work? maybe on a brighter note if they keep following the route they are travelling some of these companies will go under and make room for the small amp company who still care about build quality and pride in work to sprout up. Right now it seems to be the ot...

Re: Adding a choke to an amp?
It might have been the Hammond specs I was thinking of. Some of the originals apparently had Drakes and some had Dagnalls so the aftermarket is confused. Even MM doesn't seem to have one consistent "clone" value. Goes to show there's a lot of wiggle room with a choke. When I built my JCM800 2204, d...

Re: Adding a choke to an amp?
I think the stock JCM 800 choke is 40H at 50mA -- sort of overkill in terms of inductance since the Plexis only used something around 7H (and Fender around 4H). Is that really what it was? I know that's what Hammond replacement choke is. That seemed overkill so I bought a 7H part instead (159Q I th...
