Re: How to Troubleshoot a Burning Resisitor Problem...
I'm getting a sinking feeling, like I'm up the creek without a paddle. I think you may have the wrong paddle. There are voltages on the schematic. Have you checked any or all of them? That is where I would start. Tell us what you find. Let's verify that that the power supply is working properly. BT...

Re: How to Troubleshoot a Burning Resisitor Problem...
Thanks John.
The resistor in question is the 100 ohm resistor following the 2N6556 transistor on the the lower right-hand corner of the I-490 Board (Power). See Attatched Schematic.
I'm total transistor noob (knob? LOL). How do I check them... I don't have a data chart, unfortunately.

How to Troubleshoot a Burning Resisitor Problem...
Basically, this is my issue: In the attempt to reuse a Traynor TS-50 (solid state) Chassis and Cabinet for a Stangray Clone build, I rehoused it in a 1U rack unit... Now, when I turn it on, I get no sound and it keeps burning up a 100ohm resistor (well, at least what I 'believe' to be a 100 ohm resi...

Fender F1, Tube Substitutes....
Planning a few F1 Builds. Just wondering if a 5Y4G rectifier tube and a 6K6 would get me there...? 12ax7b for V1. I have no experience with either tubes and was wondering if they will do. I've got 6 of each... Marconi Radiotron (made in Canada) 5Y4G/6F6 G and 6K6 GT/6. Afew Philco, too. They're not ...

Re: Coolest Old School Rack Gear
The "Country" bank has some nice patches that help nail those elusive Queen and Boston-esque type harmony lead sounds. The trick is to use the unit in parallel.sharkboy wrote:It sounds very cool on a distorted guitar. Especially where it gets confused about what the fundamental is- surprisingly great effect.

Re: Coolest Old School Rack Gear
Apart from my ol' faithful Eventide H3000s, the only other piece of "old-school rack gear" that I refuse to part with is a little-known (perhaps, 'long-forgotten'?) Pitch-Shifter/Chorus/Harmonizer: Digitech HM-4 Harmony Machine. Any love for the HM-4? The HM-4 is an integral part of my so-called 'cl...

Re: P3 amplifiers?
The 20w sounded nice. However, it's hard to go wrong with a tried, tested and re-refined platform... props to the kid playing in the demo, good chops! I thought that the 50w sounded a little sterile and stiff... perhaps, due to the limitations of the demonstrator? These amps are aesthetically pleasi...

"Focused" or "Flabby"?sepulchre wrote:I guess this is pretty duh question, especially from someone who has built a few amps. But there's a matter of terminology that I never quite got. When it is said that the bass, for instance, is "tight" or "loose" what exactly does that mean?
I appreciate your indulgence.

Is there any advantage, one way or the other, to putting jumper wire on the top or bottom of the board?

I like the "Matchless-styled" mismatching speakers...
Is this RJ's layout? Just curious. I'm gonna build one of these someday!

Where did you hear about this? Very interesting.milkyBK370 wrote:Ceriatone are planning to release a lunchbox type PCB-based ODS amp.
This product will sell very well, most certainly. I am sure that many novice builders will take this on as a first-time project... and, thus begins the journey!

What to do with Old Guitar Pick-ups?
I've got a few old pick-ups lying around. They were mostly swapped-out from various guitars that I've owned over the years, when upgrading to something "better". I was just wondering if there is any use for an old guitar pick-up, other than a "Guitar Pick-up"? Hum cancelling in a spring reverb? ...L...
