Re: can anyone explain this to me?

IKJ. Can't see the PDFs you're refering to.
You get full wave rectification with the 2 diodes (4 if 2 in series) if you ground the center tap. You need a bridge (4 Diodes) if you don't have a CT or don't use it.

Re: Where to ground heaters virtual center tap?

Ya that mod is for 60hz hum only and doesn't do anything for "noise".

Re: PSU question

Every tube has a set of characteristics that have been graphed and charted ie. plate current vs bias vs plate voltage ect. I'm not really up on reading these charts but you can learn to use them. Just try looking up ..say....12ax7 specs.

Re: Cathode current

Yes you are correct. The 1 ohm resistor method was intended for Fixed bias amps where the cathode is normally tied to ground, or where doing arithmetic is unacceptable.

Re: Heater voltage to high

I've never tried this but....How about using a bucking transformer arrangement?
About 1/2 way down here...

Re: JCM 800 2204 NO SOUND

When i turned the amp on there was a loud pop than silence! NOT GOOD check the speaker first..maybe it was the thing that popped. If speaker is ok.. need to do as others posted. maybe blew a rectifier or cap.. Good point! if the tranny was miswired there might have been a good chunk of DC going to ...

Re: split load phase inverter

I have a 150 watt Univox running 4 6550s at 650V plates and 325v screens being driven by split load PI. Mind you it's 12au7..but still.
here's the 6l6 version

Re: High Plate voltage on 6L6GC

If it's a old Traynor PT it could have been wound for 110V primarys. Check your filament voltage and see if it is high too. There is a way of dropping the 120vac to something closer to 110 using a small tranny in series with the incoming ac.
