Re: Drilling holes prior to covering in Tolex?
I drill first. After vinyl, I find the holes and cut matching circles in the vinyl with an Xacto blade.

That's not some rando collection, that's a finished instrument, an Apprehension Engine, for making scary noises for this Halloween's production of Rocky Horror Picture Show!Leo_Gnardo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 5:16 pm Like every horizontal surface around here, a collection of doo-dads has gathered atop.

Re: Question covering with one piece of Tolex
Exactly. Drive some nails (finish nails are best, with their small, roundish heads) into some scrap plywood. This serves as a stand for your work.

No issues here. I order from mouser a few times each month, small orders. They're fast. Sorry for your troubles!

Re: Heater Wires - Elevate or Twist?
I spent some time years ago TRYING to induce hum into my preamp by poorly routing heater wires. I failed.

Re: Flash seen from bottom of 12AT7 PI socket
I've had some preamp tubes (vintage USA) that flash on power up. Worked fine.

Re: Peavey Artist 240
OK, I agree. But B+ hits pins4 of the left-hand power tubes first, then goes thru 100R resistors, then to the pins4 of right-hand tubes. Doesn't this mean only half the tubes are protected by screen limiting resistors?

Interesting thing going on with the screen grids in the power section. Screens are wired in series, with 100R resistor between the two:
What's that about?

Re: Sound checked Blackvibe 6L6 rebuild to reverb channel without tremelo
Correct, I use a Kill-a-Watt meter to monitor power flowing into my devices.
Observing a bulb limiter might work, but your amp will be running at lower than normal voltages when inline with bulb limiter...might possibly hide an oscillation that happens at full voltage.

Re: 2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)
Gotta say, it saves a LOT of time when tweaking an amp for a player if the builder and player are the same person. 8) On reviewing an Orange TH30 schematic, I notice they dump 50% or MORE of the signal to ground after each stage. This is partly what makes Trainwrecks so wild and loud--no intentional...

Re: Sound checked Blackvibe 6L6 rebuild to reverb channel without tremelo
For me, it's easiest to spot ultrasonic oscillations by watching power consumption, with the input jack shorted to ground. Watch your idle power consumption (25-50watts baseline?) as you turn up all the controls to max. Your power consumption should not rise.
