Re: Gain control between gain section 2 and 3 of Express?
I have not implemented a gain as you described, but I did implement a split plate load resistor, which reduced gain rather than acting like a volume pot. So I would guess that the same would be true for a gain pot.

Greg - if I remember correctly, you're phone was with AT&T???

But depending upon who your new carrier will be, they might handle everything. Check with the carriers.

Re: Anyone ever unlock and Iphone?
Shouldn't be necessary. Take the phone to whatever carrier you want to activate on, and they should be able to do it. Forced carrier locks are no longer legal.

In the old days it was possible to get power supply cable converters for Dell machines in just this situation. Check eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Converter-for-Dell-Optiplex-380-580-MB-Mini-24pin-use-Standard-Power-Supply-PSU-/361474531187?hash=item54298f9f73:g:kysAAOSw-zxWosa3 This may or may not ...

Can't vouch for accuracy. Also note that the cathode cap on the first triode on another diagram I have seen showed 25uF instead of .68uF noted on this one.

Why not replace the PPIMV with a VVR? Much more transparent I'd expect. I've used them on Rockets with great results.

Re: favourite 12" princeton reverb speaker
I never like to run any amp with speakers that have a capacity of less than twice what the amp can put out. My 2x12 handles 200 watts. My Princeton uses a 100 watt JBL. I am very conservative that way.

Re: Sacrilege?? my new amp......
I had a guy over one day to look at an amp I had up for sale (he didn't buy it). He came back with his Kemper another time to show it off. This guy actually has two of them (one is his backup because he really uses the thing when he gigs). Frankly, I don't get it. Its not that they aren't decent sou...

Re: power transformer getting hot
The 270HX is rated at 550V CT @ 230ma. And 6A on the 6V tap.
RJ's trannies appear to be between 250-300mA
I think the HTS-9144 that we used to get from Moose was 300mA
So, maybe 230mA is a little light????

Re: Setting up a new bench - need some seasoned advice
I have a table standing jewelers lighted magnifying glass. I also have the headband style jewelers magnifying glasses, the ones that flip up out of the way, and pull down to be used. Both come in pretty handy. Also, if you don't already have one, build the Aiken dummy load, and keep it handy. I also...

I thought that all of the "better" pots had bushings that were 3/8" x 3/8". No?

Re: bass head?
Not just the SVT, but their lower powered bass amps were cool too. Oddly enough, another popular bass amp from back in the day was the Acoustic 360 (do I have that model right?), which was SS even back then. And some of the Kustom tuck and roll amps were popular for bass too.

Re: bass head?
I'm not a bass player, but I can tell you that a 50 watt BF Bassman, while a killer guitar amp, is a non-starter of a bass amp. The Bassman starts breaking up early, and unless you are Jack Bruce, Felix Pappalardi or Jack Cassady, you need more clean than that. I would say anything less than 100 wat...

The sachem I have shows the first stage as having 2.7k / 25uF, and the second stage as 1.5K / .68uF.
And the schem doesn't show any voltages.
