Re: Gibson Falcon GA-19RVT

Maybe an opportunity to use these? If you can get the old ones out of the rings, not easy, and the new ones in w/o ugliness or find similar fitting rings. Anyways would be a cute repair. https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/capacitor-ce-mfg-tubular-450v-1010-f I still think these mint stock untouch...

A friend of mine quipped "I wonder if he was greeted by Beethoven?" Lol BTW anyone interested in some CB that isn't the same old great 28 hits collection this is prime and not the same old thing. Kudos to whoever put it together. I even filed it under blues rather than r n r. https://www.amazon.com...

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab

Matchless are really bright, maybe fizz is not enough treble (lack of air as they'd say in HiFi). Just a thought.

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab

iirc this amp has really high voltage for an EL84 amp so best be careful with the screens. For fizz I think I remember reading about conjunctive filters as a cure, I never tried, others can add info, but you can search here and google it. Not all 2X EL84 are fizzy IME not sure why, maybe it's a volt...

Chuck was Prometheus, he brought black music to white people, he freed our asses and our minds followed. God bless, RIP Chuck. Re: 6SJ7 Pentode Operating Conditions

Another thing you could try is dropping the plate load to 33k holding all other values the same. OK, tried, didn't like, and very surprised I could hear the difference given the small Ra difference. Too modest, not enough gain. Your 47K points seem to hit the 5F1 drive about right, though the 5C1 h...

Re: We need to relearn listening and get Hifi back in our lifes!

BTW If I should 'upgrade' from the L810 to other speakers, I'd build something like this a la Altec Voice of the Theatre A7
My goal is to one day build a Kanspea. I'm gonna go in the corner and cry now.

Re: 6SJ7 Pentode Operating Conditions

to be honest, I don't really understand 100% what I do, but sometimes I sense things, and so I try to put together ideas Anch'io, fratello! On the other hand, I'm probably more thrilled when stuff works that someone who knows what they are doing. Fantastic stuff Martin, I can pretty much follow it ...

Re: Should we add a few more sub topics to the main areas?

I'm for getting rid of the vox, fender, Marshall sub-forums and back to basics. The action's all on the tech forum anyway. What's unique to tag is that it's not an everything forum it's a tw and dumble forum with a general tech section. It was easier back when to check what was new. I just check my ...

No idea if this is a 150W Greenback or if Celestion is muscling in on EV's turf, but thought I'd post it.

Re: 6SJ7 Pentode Operating Conditions

After giving it some time, however, I just found it to be too flat and a bit dull/dark and lacking presence. That livened things up a lot and it was much more balanced and chimey. OK, My experience exactly . I had pretty much the Jones set up, sounded fine but a bit generic and cheap. This is more ...

Re: 4K Primary 18 Watt Output Transformer

Matchless, supposedly, runs their 18W 2X EL84 amps, e.g. Lightning, Spitfire, etc. at 4k. Good amps, right? My Lightning clone has a TDS Matchless copy OT at 4k. I tried mis-matching to get 8k, horses for courses, both sounded good,I leave it at 4k, sounds a bit meaner and brighter. Their 4X EL84 am...

Re: 6SJ7 Pentode Operating Conditions

Will be putting trimmers in for Ra & Rg2, and perhaps Rk Sounds like a recipe for a straight jacket and padded cell. I thought I looked through all the Gibsons but missed the GA50, two 6J5s instead of a 6SN7, that's a crusty old circuit. So this was a Jim Hall amp? That's a cool fact. I just figure...
