Re: EL84 screen R´s - 1k or 100R?

I haven't been on this forum in yonks , hung up my soldering iron and closed the book on this stuff to avoid a costly habit in a low income country, but I have been dabbling again. So, hello all. As I had posted on this post it showed up in my email and this is a good place to step back in. I recal...

Re: Bit of current Eric Clapton/Dumble inside info

I'm about to start a 5E7 build with some Tweedle ideas... balanced PI, GZ34, bigger filter caps... how would you guys go about that choke input power supply? There's not much drop happening, wouldn't a 30/30/16/16 array get the job done just as well? I like a little sag. The fact that the choke inp...

Re: Synergy Royal Mustard

So, it's Royal Mustards now?

I see this old ad being redone w/a snotty tech soldering an amp in the back of the Rolls and an other tech pulling up along sides asking to borrow a .022 cap.

Re: Princeton reverb speaker

Two nice speakers on hand, instead of speculating beforehand try them both and report back to the rest of us. I'm always curious about tens, but I think I bought my last one. PR's far and away the best coffee house amp ever but with a band you need a DR. DR cuts through better too, it's not just the...

Re: [Question] Marshall Major 200 Watts

I don’t know anything about Marshall Majors and Pigs but reading back through this and the arcing issues discussed the TT21 popped into mind: http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aby0019.htm Who knows if Marshall was even aware of these tubes but I doubt any sane company would put deadly high voltage on the ...

Re: Reducing gain in a wreck?

Can always add a low input  You can progressively emasculate it back into a BF Bassman, but I agree that means you got the wrong amp. Sell the express at cost to someone and build a rocket for pedal friendliness. But if you insist try 5751 & 12AY7 (real ones) in V1 first. For more cleans mayb...

I know, new parts are great and sound great but there's a little (sometimes a lot) of mystic magic mojo in old crap. Bet this thing sounds killer.

Re: Vintage 1963 AC30

Hey! Where's the photo of the components ? You holding out on us? +1 Nice! Does it still belong to the church? Do they know what it's worth? If it's still theirs you might want to do the most non-invasive restore, get the recone done, and then sell it for them. They could buy a used off craigslist:...

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab

Maybe you've already found, but here's two useful posts that might help, One is the 'famous' conjunctive filter, the other the 'famous' fizz cap. Never tried the conjunctive filter, seems to have been invented originally to snub a ringing OT, I doubt that's a problem with a limited bandwidth MI OT, ...

Re: Rocket 4x6V6

I have to admit that I never thought any circuit could pull me away from my beloved Tweeds and Marshalls but the Rocket has been quite the head turner for me You need to look over your schematics, compare the 5F6A/JTM to the AC30/Rocket topologies, the later is a Tweed, just a few small flavor chan...

Re: VibroChamp / Pro Junior Boxy; Suggestions?

Try running the little amp you don't like through a bigger cab, but you said the Blues Jr is gone. But if you find something small too boxy try lower filtering, a lot lower, no more than you need to not hum - like 5f1 style. That silverface among other things sounded sweeter because of the old caps,...

Re: Rocket low end and midrange

The interactive tone controls are problematic on Voxes, if you have no Vox experience it’ll throw you off at first, pretty much any way you twiddle the tone knobs you scoop the mids and loose treble and the amps sounds bassy, you have to find your sound, guitar included, and live with it as is, as g...
