Re: 7027's
V4 VT-22 VT-40 Hands down the "TONE" for 7027s Mark, are you saying that you don't subscribe to the 6L6 theory ? Don't get me wrong, a DIY V4 would be kick-ass, I've never seen one. A bunch of the parts, like the panel, etc you can get at http://fliptops.net/ , and there are a few Ebay sellers that...

Re: 7027's
The correct answer, notwithstanding the evidence presented above, is an Ampeg of course! :D Of course that is what first comes to mind, but maybe something like a V2 as a second project might be a bit much :D . Although, if you go that route, here is a guy you can get the 6K11 socket from : http://...

Re: 7027's
7027s are really just 6L6s, except that pins 5&6, and 1&4 are connected internally, so you could use them in any circuit that takes 6L6s - just remember not to use the normally unused pins on the tube sockets as tie points unless you want lots of smoke. Here is an article that goes into a little det...

Re: 2 hole rocket reverb
Ryan, Very nice work buddy. Great playing as well :) Mark Mark, you are too kind - seriously, but I like that ! :D I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that the positive vibe you send out here really pumps me up. When are we gonna hear clips of some of your amazing creations ? Darin - I recorded the c...

Re: 2 hole rocket reverb
Glad to hear that you got your reverb working. Do you like the dwell feature ? I have an AT7 as my reverb driver, and it sounds good to me like that, so I haven't tried anything else. I find that I like to have the reverb on all the time even if it's mixed in just a little. I made a clip that I am w...

I'm really digging my 2 holer Rocket reverb through my 2X12 Avatar open-backed cab with a vintage 30 and a G12H30.

Re: Way to test current rating of a power transformer?
C'mon, nobody bookmarked the link I was talking about? It's the one that you calculate however many Ohms/Volt you have and use the chart to find the max current with a HW and FW bridge rectifier. I think it's in this thread : http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10900&highlight=ohms+volt+char...

Re: 2xel84 rocket
To anybody who downloaded my 2XEL84 Rocket Reverb layout on this page of this thread : http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12746&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90 There was a mistake in the connection of the reverb recovery stage's coupling capacitor which I fixed and have uploaded an updated...

Re: 2 hole rocket reverb
Darin, I finally got my 2 holer going, and I had the same no reverb problem that you are having. So, I got out my signal tracer and followed the reverb signal until it stopped, and I discovered that the problem was a mistake in my layout that I should have caught earlier. The problem is that the rev...

Re: PPIMV in Rocket?
BTW, Aikens talked about this issue with this type MV on his website. I get that the science is there, sure. But the thing is, in practice, whatever the MV is doing to remove any particular benefit of the NFB, you would not hear it. Rooster, I have not put a type 2 master in an Express, but have pu...

Re: Layout Opinions
I like the first one better, but some information is left out. I assume that you are going to ground the v2 cathode and the PI ground reference at the star point by the input jack ? If so, then I would recommend grounding the filter caps that filter those stages at that same point or you are going t...

Thanks for posting that, interesting stuff. Did I catch that right that they are shipping with NOS tubes ? I don't know why, but I like hearing those stories about how Everett Hull hated rock and roll haha. Nice to hear George M is keeping busy.

Re: Standby switch. Series vs. PT center tap method
Ampeg used the CT switching method with the whole portaflex line, some of which are fixed bias and their engineering is pretty solid. The B18n ,for example, even steals the bias from the HT line. One reason I have seen come up in discussions on this topic in favor of this method is that AC is easier...
