Re: Do you prefer Gibson or Fender

I was hot on Gibson when I first shopped for a guitar mainly because every guitarist I liked played a les Paul. The first time I played a strat, I knew that single coils where right for me. I went on to buy a Korean made epiphone les Paul standard but lusted after the fender sound until I got a stra...

Electric Guitar recording setup

What kind of recording setup do folks use for recording demos and youtube videos? I have tried recording demos with a Tascam US 122 and a SM57 as well as several condenser and can never get even close to the sound quality I am looking for especially with any sort of overdrive.

Re: bogen cha33

Someone wanted me to look at a CHA 33 to see what was needed to convert it to a tweed style amp. The amp looks like someone buried it in the ground since the 50's but it fired up when plugged in (even has a set of RCA black plates that are showing very good on the tester). Volume was going in and ou...

Re: Favorite 2 tube preamp, 2 el84 amps?

I'm putting the final touches on an 18 watt that started as an 18 watt lite, I then modded it to a superlite. Not satified with that, I have since tweaked it to a Mazerati GT preamp w/ TMB and small changes into the superlite power section. It has a cathode bypass switchable boost, bright switch, an...

Re: Power transformer trouble

MC is sending me a new PT. They have great customer service from what I've experienced. Triode took 3 days to respond to my email and phone call.

Re: Power transformer trouble

I've been emailing a tech rep all day performing tests and he says it sounds like the HV winding is open. How does this happen? It was working fine before I changed the circuit from a Lite IIB to a superlite. I didn't even desolder any leads except for the primaries... We will see what he says tomor...
Lift the center tap from ground and measure resistance from each end to the center tap. The ohms should be close but not equal. You can get the ends at the tube sockets without desoldering. Just pull the power tubes.
I have 86ohms on one lead and 1.8Mohms on the other. Not go...

Power transformer trouble

I have a MC 18 watt PT and OT I used in a Lite IIb build, I converted the amp to a superlite and now it seems like I have PT issues when i tried to start it up. All my heater voltages are ok and my wall AC is 125. The problem is the high voltage leads are putting out 350V on one and 0 volts on the o...

Re: my amp making noise on power-up

have you tried pulling tubes? I would agree that it could be the transformer but I've heard a buzz like that from tubes.

Re: Liverpool Output Transformer Selection

I can't speak for the 6.6k but I have built 2 pools with 5.2K Heyboers from RJ and they are bad to the bone! With humbuckers I break up at around 9 o'clock on the amp volume but can still get some authoritative clean before that point.
