Re: Worst songs ever thread.
Worst songs ever? I guess my definition of worst is a song that NO band can make worth hearing. The ones that make you want to immediately puke, the kind where you feel like your brain has swelled to 10 tens it's normal size and you want to rip your skull open with a crowbar and a hammer but your ea...

Re: Guitar Gallery Thread! Post 'em up!
Just one guitar that I should sell (because it doesn't get played), but I just don't want to. Re: So what's this varistor doing here?
So there's a variable resistor symbol on the schematic and the printed word Varistor is next to it. That looks like a mistake. Hmmm.....given that schematics aren't always perfect, I don't think I would be so trusting to assume it is a Varistor and not a potentiometer. Is there already a depth/inten...

Re: Gibson Factory Raided at Gun point
I've got to say that this whole thread is depressing on multiple levels. There seems to be two options, Gibson is innocent or guilty. If Gibson really is innocent then the government is overstepping; If guilty then they're lawbreakers and I don't like patronizing companies that feel they are above t...

Re: Cabinet for Delta Pro 12A
Is this oval port 1x12 going to have the traditional port in the back or the oval ports on the sides like the cabinets from forte?

Re: The project begins ... slowly
I'm not sure you need to do dual B+ sections. In addition to taking up less space and costing less in parts, I would think that one power supply rail might be better since both stereo channels will have the same volts, versus a possible variation if you have two. And the 22uF caps in series will pro...

Re: miniHRM evolution
Is it correct the wiring of the PAB on the layout? I ask cause I think I see some difference against the schematic but its very probably I don't know what i see at this point![/quote] I took a look and you're right; it seems that the 86 special duet layout doesn't match the schematic for the ...

Re: Mosfet VVR question
Are you saying it should be able to drop 360Volts on a 400V supply?? While I'm sure your kit can do that, I'm just unsure why anyone would. But OK lets play that absolutely UNREALSTIC 360V drop times the current of two EL34s at 140mA. Wow, guess what, 0.28 Amps times 360V is about 100 Watts. Hmm, ge...

Re: Mosfet VVR question
UR12, I don't think your kit is overpriced, and never said it was. I think the use of a NTE2973 by people doing their own VVR is ridiculous overkill for most users, including the original poster. And yes I think the NTE2973 part is overpriced, by about 25%. What exactly am I doing? Answering a post;...

Hmm....when I clicked on the link Structo provided it told me "You can't see this page without submitting the form"; the link you posted let me in to use their calculator, so it really wasn't a repeat.

Re: Mosfet VVR question
The NTE2973 is a perfectly fine part, but it's overkill in every single direction for many, if not most, situations. I'll concede that if you're selling a kit you have to try and prepare for anything the general public might do (even when you say not to) and that will likely lead to using the most i...

Re: Rail Question
Since nobody else is taking a shot at this I will. I think you're making this harder than it needs to be. You want to know what power transformer for a pair of EL84s and associated preamp tubes, with max plate voltage of about 330V. I think you only need about a 250-0-250, but that's just a guesstim...

Re: Mosfet VVR question
I find it so much easier to offer suggestions when there is a schematic of what's going on. ForcedFire I think you nailed the reason, it's just what has been used before, and amp builders go with what works....not necessarily the best choice. Besides once you get into sound then the crazy opinion wa...

Re: miniHRM evolution
Thanks...........the numbers aren't adding up for me in the EF86 area. The voltages listed on the EF86 seem to be a bit higher than what would be achieved with a 269EX transformer (or a 200-0-200 toroid). Your work schedule sounds like........well, too much for me. Whenever you get a chance is fine....
