Re: Replacing tube bases
I use gorilla glue, which is foaming type superglue. Just put a dab or two on the broken tab, push it back on gently, then barely insert the tube into a spare tube socket (just enough to line up the key) and turn it upside down to set overnight so the glue doesn't get on the socket. Scrape off the e...

Re: Tube Testers
I've got an old Stark 9-66 which is pretty good for transconductance readings, and then if I have to match power tubes, I do it in a working amp, and standardize the current readings against the readings on tubes from the tube store.

Re: The Other Side: Tube HiFi Stereos
I did a super simple stereo for my computer at work with old console parts. Plain single ended el84s, with each side of a 12au7 as an input, and a volume control. Here's a pic:

Re: Duplicated the same build but slightly different tone!?
I always end up tweaking each one individually or just living with the fact that each amp is a different beast, exact circuit or not. Sometimes wire placement makes a big difference too, or if it's stiff sounding, the power supply could be a little more efficient than the other one.

It looks like an Atari console. Maybe you could play space invaders on it.

Let's see some pics of that beast, sounds cool.Alexo wrote: But when I can 'go for it,' I'll take my 'MonsterAQ5' head that runs 6 cathode-biased 6AQ5's in the power section and an EF86 front end into the 2x12, which runs a pair of Hellatone G12H30's.

The last little while it's been my Magnatone 213 clone. Before it was the vibrochamp for practicing like Gibsonman63 said.

Re: Gibson GA 40 with no tremolo and tone switch
I think this is the schematic of what I did, I might have ditched the two volumes, and just hardwired a single resistor, but you get the point.

Re: Gibson GA 40 with no tremolo and tone switch
I did one of these for a friend, with each 5879 voiced differently, and the 6sq7 was a gain stage before a proper Fender type tonestack, it was great.

Re: Faceplate making material
Man that Safmat stuff works great, after a couple of thick coats of clear it looks great. Just wish I could get 18" lengths to do a whole faceplate, this one was two pieces: [img:500:375]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5298/5449078828_4b48a3f2db.jpg[/img] [img:500:375]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5...

Re: Faceplate making material
I got some at above ground art supplies downtown near the ocad building since they were out of waterslide decals. I'm sure I could take it to a printing house, but thought I'd try this just to see. I used my black and white laser printer, and you just print right on the top of the sticker, and stick...
