Just an idea! The internal resistance of a 12X7A triode will diminished by a 39kOhms resistor in parallel to the plate and cathode terminals to about 24kOhms. I found by simualtion that the power transformer secondary voltage must be about 220 Volts AC for the B+ 240 Volts DC.

Without the resistor the EF86 works in the tirode mode.
In that case the 0.066 capacitor acts as "snubber".
