Re: Any Problem with using Mains AC on the Heaters?

Just remember you are tying your mains return to one side of the filament string. You are safest to keep it isolated from chassis and B+, but this may not be the best from an ac related hum standpoint.

Re: Developing the DIY "Champ" for first time builders

I have this newer Bronco schematic that has voltages, can't be a whole lot of differences. Man! Those voltages have to be wrong. 24V at the cathode over470 Ohms is 51mA bias. 342 V on the plate with 51mA bias is 17W dissipation! Also, there appears to be 78V across the OPT primary, at 51mA that's 4...

Re: Developing the DIY "Champ" for first time builders

The opt sounds like the GXSE10-8-5K but upright instead of low profile. If so, you could flip the drawing to be vertical and it should work. http://www.edcorusa.com/DWG/15000-EI087-100-HX.pdf I'm curious about the PT as I've been using one with the slightly lower ratings (50 vs 60mA) w/0 the 5V wind...

Re: Russian TrainWreck - Expresso Lite(Liverpool), Soviet tubes

Thanks, the speaker panel and grill cloth were re-purposed from a Magnavox Console Stereo.

I've got one more left with the 12" speaker in it that I might use with my 5F1 inspired amp.

Re: Output Transformer causing "red plating."

Are you determining the turns ratio by measuring the resistance of the windings, or by applying a signal to the secondary and measuring the resulting signal on the Primary? Most transformers will have a resistive imbalance due to the winding topology (outer layers have more resistance for the same n...

Re: Russian TrainWreck - Expresso Lite(Liverpool), Soviet tubes

That is indeed a nice clip.

Finished set with speaker installed (upside down since the leads are up that way).

I decided to do round-overs on all corners. I think it looks better this way.

Re: Russian TrainWreck - Expresso Lite(Liverpool), Soviet tubes

Unfortunately (or maybe Fortunately considering my condition) it's too wet and cold to go outside and work on the speaker cab. Here is my complete (to be) system. The speaker is supposed to be a 1970s Rola Celestion G12M, 25W, 8 Ohm. The markings are T1871 or T1S71, and JJ28 with what appear to be t...

Re: wima caps....where should i try them?

the .003s are a tad small for most applications, however there are some circuits using .0022 coupling caps. Reduce the following grid resistor by a factor of 1.5 for the same response. The .047s can be used as coupling caps in most designs where .022s are used by cutting the following grid resistor ...

Re: red plate 6L6 tube - next steps?

sounds like a bad connection at the tube socket. Moving wires can change the stress on socket pins causing them to shift which will cause the pint o wipe against the mating socket and clean it. Wiggling the tube wipes the pin against the mating socket cleaning it. I'd watch closely for it to occur a...

Re: The Gimp in ICU (Chest Pain Center).

A little bit of a warning to you guys. My Heart Attack was not preceded by the normal symptoms of chest pain in the center of my chest, arm pain, neck pain, shortness of breath, or the feeling of weight on my chest. Because of this I didn't think I was having any heat trouble. I had experienced a sh...

Re: Wind Turbines

Hey thanks. I'm home again. The generator I read about was similar to this one: http://www.otherpower.com/17page1.html Except it had the coils cast in epoxy to hold them rigidly in place. The Neodymium magnets were also cast in epoxy. This allowed the assembly to keep very small spacing between the ...

I think I have some links at home on a 600W unit that is completely DIY.

When I get home out of ICU (Chest Pain Center) I'll try to find it.
