Re: Rocket / Build

I've put Lar-Mar masters on three of my Rocket type builds, and find that the tone and dynamics are negatively affected when adjusted past about 25%. Two of those builds also have VVR, and I've found a balance between a slight reduction in voltages combined with moderate use of the MV affect the ton...

Re: Rocket / Build

Correct - lower HT voltages for the Rocket. I used a 5199 for one of my many Rocket builds - sounds different but still good. In fact, I've used several different PTs and OTs for Rockets. Each has its own character, but I have also changed up the signal caps and other components, added various tone ...

Nice! Should be a fun build. Still my favorite, and why I've built so many variants for myself.
Have fun!

Re: Different Take on Dumbleator

Good points, Martin. Hadn't really considered using it in the input of the amp, but could also be a great way to drive non-buffered pedals. And I didn't think of using it for other circuits on the bench. Thanks!
Cheers,
Greg

Different Take on Dumbleator

I had all of the parts ready to make another Dumbleator and then got inspired by Martin's miniaturized version. Using a chassis box I had on hand for building power supplies for some of my audio gear, I thought it would be interesting to use a prefabricated tube effects loop using a subminiature tub...

There is so much valuable information and content on this forum it would be a huge tragedy to let it fail bit by bit.

Re: Best way to get dumble low end power without too much volume

Yeah, I've run about 12 different speakers of 4 different brands with my D-type and have to say the best 2 are the EV in the Thiele cab and the G12-65, the latter now lives in the combo cab now and is getting broken in. Long list of speakers I thought sounded really bad with this amp.

Re: BBQ

Harry's Open Pit BBQ was my lunch spot 2x a week when I worked down the street on Ventura Blvd. in the San Fernando Valley. Like the location mentioned in the link below, this one was located close to lots of rock and jazz clubs back in the day, which for me was 1974-about 1980. They had a grill in ...
