Re: Anyone build with a Mercury Magnetics P45RS
Be careful when fusing variacs of this size. It is normally 5A but I have bought them with 12A fuses in there! This cheapo model had a 5a fuse and it stayed in tact. Thanks again for the help Ooff. Glad that you have it figured out, but that's unfortunate. Loud humming from transformers or a Variac...

Re: Anyone build with a Mercury Magnetics P45RS
Let's ignore the hum. I hear you. It's a little unsettling.. ignore it. Let's not ignore 5v heaters at 12VAC. hmmmm We can definitely ignore the hum since the variac made smoke. Sooooo I need to come up with a new test supply. I think I have a 6.3v supply in the bin Solved. The 22g. wires are the ac...

Re: Anyone build with a Mercury Magnetics P45RS
So I set the variac to 12v AC, hook up the orange and white and got an ugly hum from the variac when i turned it on. Hums scare me ;) Even att 12v in I am getting 5v on the heater leads. Regardless I "think" know enough to know the variac is telling me something isn't right, me thinks. IMG_9632.jpg

Re: Anyone build with a Mercury Magnetics P45RS
Thanks Martin. Do I need to ground the CTs back to the earth on the variac?martin manning wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 11:27 pm I would put 12VAC on the orange and white primary leads and see if you get 10% of the voltages expected on all the other windings.

Re: Anyone build with a Mercury Magnetics P45RS
Thanks Phil. i have a variac, so understanding the testing process will get me on the right track. what i know Secondary Reds and Black have continuity = B+ Greys and Blue have continuity = 6.3v @ 2.5a per the info I got from MM. Primary: Greens and Pink have continuity = 2nd 6.3v @ 2.5a per the inf...

Anyone build with a Mercury Magnetics P45RS
I have this PT ready to wire up in a build and talked to MM about the wiring since there is none available to actually look at. After getting the run down from them I realized that what i was told and what I have are different. If anyone has used this PT can you chime in so i can get some confirmati...

Re: Louis electric KR12 and Headstrong Loop
Thanks Dave, hope you're well. I am, and thanks, dude! I hope you are doing well and staying safe too. That lovely EVM12L is going in a widebody 1x12 for my 102 build (I'm actually building an amp for myself and not someone else, *gasp*). Transformers got ordered today and got my chassis from Taylo...

Louis electric KR12 and Headstrong Loop
I've been wanting to try one of these for a long time and the right trade came up so here it is. I love look of this cab and have used for several of my builds. All in all a really nice sounding amp that does the tweed to jmp thing well. It's very punchy and has a huge set of transformers that I'm s...

Re: Any Wizard owners here?
My 50W MC1 has a soft crackling noise when I first turn it on. Always goes away in approx 45sec to 1min. Got it back last year from Rick St Pierre after complete upgrade to 2020 specs. I forgot to mention this to him when I sent it in, and he either didn't catch it or maybe thought it wasn't worth ...

Re: Any Wizard owners here?
I've owned several Wizards and the only issue I ever had were:
1) the early MKI versions had a popping FS - silly oversight on Ricks part
2) Nothing sounded good next to them. Seriously, almost every HRM sounded congested and over compressed if I played it next to the Wizard

1/4", alligator clips into my interface ---> reaper with a spectrum analyzer on an insert and I had visual and audible confirmation of the outside foils!

I was already in a phaser building stint when Eddie died, so the Phase 90 got to be an homage to the master. Board is from Madbean and the quad of 2N5457's came from lectric-fx. Super easy to use and much tighter match makes for a great sounding phase - https://lectric-fx.com/product/jay-fetz-single...
