Re: Amp smokes but keeps playing
Could be to reduce hum in the output stage me thinks. Wonder what the real voltages are at the cathode and screen.

Re: Amp smokes but keeps playing
Tilly, the screens are fed from the PS rail, imo. The 47k connected to the cathode should create a current loop and feed some ripple into the cathode as well?

Re: Take better care of yourselves.
Great posts. If you have the patience to design and build an amp, one can dedicate themselves to breathing and exercise. I do yoga and try to work out with heavy weight at least three times a week. I feel worse when i stop. At mid 40s i might be a younger guy here but kids job and life still get in ...

Re: Xits
I changed both the mid and bass caps, and put a series cap on a pusull pot to shift the mids. I had a slope switch but am using a standard 100k.
Unfortunately right now i don't recall the exact values of my ts. I'll try to open it up tonight or this week.

Mine is 335 plates and around 320 screens...
I changed the TS to not make it so bassy. Also changed some cc's as well as the bypass cap on the first stage.

More than you even though you have more in the Congo, I have more friends in Zimbabwe and one of th...

Take one of your amps and a pencil and draw teh schematic for it. Then check to make sure it is right. That is a semester of learning right there.

Re: design principle?
vibrato, OuputMagParVsSer.png shows two frequency response plots. The green plot is for the Naylor configuration, C1=470pF and R6 = 560k , while the blue plot is for the other type, C1=470pF and R6=500Meg. The 500Meg essentially creates an open from on side of the resistor to the other. It is essent...

Re: DISTORTION vs OVERDRIVE vs BREAKUP * Who knows what's what??
I'm going to define distortion as what happens to your clean signal when its amplitude exceeds the amount of available headroom in your amp. I would disagree with this but this is all opinion... Distortion (IMO) is inevitable and always present. Your ears will distort a sound wave, so this can be a...

tsutt, the Z stroke is probably not enough after a holder and tool overhang. Yes, Lefty, what mill do you have? I'm jealous!
