Haven't been here in a while, and see this! Damn that is one sweet looking amp and i'm sure it sounds as good as it looks. Nice work!

Ground is green on any mass produced electronics item. i don't know the reference but that is the way it is.Ken Moon wrote:but I can't find the specific requirements to use the green or green/yellow wires

Re: How do Pre amp pedals work
Those are pretty cool. So here's a question that will have very opinionated answers. Which way will give the best sound :) The sound will be determined by the operating point of the stage(s) and voltages, as well as the guitars/power amp you are plugged into. I would assume if this was the same the...

Re: LED pilot light
Wont the rectifier also drop voltage? Since we're in the single digits for voltage i would assume the rectifier drop to be enough to not be ignored?

Re: Merlin's Practical Serial Effects Loop layout
Looks like this was the same one I tried, which introduced a lot of hum. Not sure why the layout was very similar to yours I put the jacks right behind my tubes as well. Glad your's worked well!xtian wrote:Updated layout attached, error corrected, input voltage divider values updated.

I like the 1/2inch EMT connector and ground block. I'm getting close to finishing my new home so can't wait to start building amps again!

Re: input grid stopper and grid leak resistor wattage?
The "noise" produced by smaller power-rated resistors is supposedly more than the larger and higher-power resistors of the same resistance. Supposedly. The 1/4 watt should work fine as input resistor but if the noise statement is true, that first resistor's noise will be amplified across the entire ...

Re: Parallel 2nd stage, kinda
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with parallel and the second dpdt in the down position, your treble channel will be out of phase at the mixing point, yes? Might it be better to run a triple pole switch, and combine the two switches into one to prevent this? That extra hole will get you a location for t...

Re: Anyone built Merlin's preamps?
Can't believe how busy life has gotten with two teenage daughters - I thought when I turned 50 things would slow down Everything past 50 gets exponentially busier and faster. 4 months after you turn 51, you'll be 53, then 2 months later you'll be 57... all the while wondering where your time, money...
