Re: heater wire
yeah I'm sure the PVC insulation melts before wire, doesn't copper have a high melting point?

Re: heater wire
A typical 50 watt Marshall draws about 4 amps and 20 ga is rated at 11 amps, more than sufficient for heater wiring.
heck 22 gauge is rated at 7 amps and I bet that is conservative.
btw It's the insulation that limits the wires amp rating.

Richie,
The newer PEC casings do look a bit different than ones made a few years ago but aren't PEC still made in Canada? I think Clarostat are made in Mexico..

Re: Siemens el34 on ebay
Yeah didn't Tesla switched to black bases and high domed tops around the mid eighties?
fwiw I have a pair of Siemens labeled EL34 made in Holland with light brown base and DD getter's. Codes are wiped off but guessing probably late fifties, early sixties?

Re: pots of choice
some prefer the sound of alphas, esp. in plexis. alphas are CCs whereas most PECs are plastic Yup Alpha are carbon composition and PEC are hot molded carbon unless I'm looking at the data sheets  FYI Found this, lists the material used in various pots http://www2.eem.com/Potentiometers_Trimmer...

In a Vintage Guitar Magazine article Ken did mention he was contemplating putting an fx loop in a Rocket IIRC, don't know if he actually did it though

Re: Really liking my new "Ultimate Attenuator"...
The big wirewound resistors typically used (in the Airbrake, etc.) actually have a small to moderate amount of inbuilt inductance, due to the fact they're basically a long coil of wire wound on a ceramic form. --mark Mark, IIRC you can for an additional fee order non inductive power resistors from ...

Re: OT for a Plexi 50 style amp
Another vote for Marstran, I have his RS OT and am working on an amp now using the 784-128 http://www.marstran.com/50W%20OT%20128.htm
Just a note Brian offers two types of OT's for 50 watt Marshall's the early 784-128 and the later 748-139 OT. Ask Brian for the details

Re: 220-250V Express Pilot Light & MOV
Ron,
Mouser doesn't have the proper MOV? for the indicator you can either get a 6.3v indicator and run off the heaters or again if Mouser etc doesn't have one there are 250v indicators on ebay from time to time..
