Re: Power Supply Dropping No Current Draw
OK.....this was an old project that I made some changes including putting smaller output and power x'formers. It just dawned on me....that was the problem. The power x'former doesn't have a center tap so I'll need to dump the diodes and install a full wave rectifier. LOL...duh... I guess that's what...

Power Supply Dropping No Current Draw
OK, I haven't seen this one before. Here's what happens. With all of the tubes out I get high enough voltage from the power supply. Plug in a few tubes, even with the outputs not installed and I get only about 20 volts. The amp works at the low voltage(with 2 12xxx7's and 2 6L5's, as I have it hooke...

Re: Vibro Champ Conversion suggestions.
I will use the chassis in a head cab so I'm not worried about hitting the speaker.
Thanks

Re: Vibro Champ Conversion suggestions.
I know I'll have to change the X'formers. I can use a SS Rectifier and use the old rectifier tube socket for the second output tube. If I'm reading the schematic right the Normal ch of a Deluxe (not including Rev or Trem) only uses 2 preamp tubes, the same with the Champ II, etc.. I'm curious if any...

Vibro Champ Conversion suggestions.
Long story short I recently picked up a '78 Vibro Champ with: 022905 Output X'former 022772 Power X'former This amp is slightly different than the typical schematic I see for the VC in that it has (physically and on the schematic- old Groove Tubes book) 420V on the 6V6 plate V 342V on th AA764 versi...

Thanks. I downloaded a more recent version. It's not drastically different.Teleguy61 wrote:Here's a start.

Tweeked D'Lite Version?
Hello People! It's been a while since I've been here and I am in need of some guidance. About 1.5 yrs ago I started a Tweeked D'Lite amp. I got the chassis & boards from Moss and the relay brd and other parts from other distributors. No problem there. However, if memory serves me there were a lot of...

Bias on Princeton/D'lite/Deluxe
I've moded an old Princeton amp. I kept the B+ but a lot of the amp is wired like a "D'lite Tweeked" using the Princeton/Deluxe layout in the amp. NO relays or OD section. Here's my concern. On both output tubes: Pin 3: 399V Pin 4: 400V Pin 5: -43.6V Pin 6: 401V Pin 8 which has a 1ohm resistor that ...

Business
Hey...you're BOTH making some good points. If parts are not a problem I don't see how one can't make money building amps if you have a lot of orders. And good support people are needed in orders, parts, receiving, packing, etc...But you can train almost anyone to do those jobs. I know...I've trained...

Techs
After years of being in the electronics repair/refurb business I found that it was usually not difficult to find good help. The caveat is...you have to pay them well. Most Srv/repair centers etc. don't because they think it's too expensive. Quite the contrary. I've found that if I paid a good tech (...

Repairs
LOL....At any one time I had between 7-12 techs working with my partner and myself. In a typical day a tech would repair between 8-20 units. Sometimes more if they were easy repairs to portable units or mods that needed to be performed. With one co. we handled all returns from dealers East of the Mi...

Amp
I just read a thread on the Brown Note Forum where some customers are waiting nearly 16 Months for a kit with almost NO communication. I wish I had known about his before I placed an order. There was NOTHING on the checkout page that noted a backorder and NOTHING on the notice of reciept of payment ...

Amp Clips
Yes the VVT X amp sounds really nice but right now $1K is a bit over the top for me so I'll have to go for a build. In fact a number of the VVT amp clips sound great. They've made an art of tweeking that sound.
Thanks for the input people....I'd like to hear more.....

D'Lite and VVT X Model
Just for the record: I don't own one and I'm in no way associated with VVT Amps. I've got to say that the video of Jack Pearson playing the X Model sounds excellent. In my opinion, many of the mod'd D'Lite amps sound pretty good but a bit hard edged and not as smooth in OD. Anyone heard any clips of...
