Re: Where do you guys get your turrets?

i've used hoffman's and watts thick ones and haven't ever had any issues getting solder to stick. my iron has an analog dial so i'm not exactly sure, but i usually have it set to just a hair above 700. but if its one of those turrets that has two power supply caps, a dropping resistor, a tap from th...

Re: TW Rocket combo build

real nice. love the use of the eyelet strip to connect to the output tubes. can't wait to see it all built up in the combo.

Re: my band

"you can get the pedal steel player cheaper." HA! actually, i live close to jim mcvay of mcvay benders. a few years ago i called him about getting one installed. he was very nice, but told me there was about a 2-3 month wait until he could get to it. i never followed up, but yeah, i've always been i...

my band

hi everyone...its been a while since i've posted but i've been lurking all along, enjoying all ya'lls fine builds and knowledge. started a new band with some guys at the end of last year. though we don't have a fiddle or steel guitar (yet), we play mostly country/honky tonk music. recently we record...

Re: 6SN7/6SL7 and DC Heaters

i built a 5B3 last year and used AC heaters. no more or less hum than any other amp i've built, so i'll add +1 to try with AC.

congrats on the amp, RJ.

that's interesting. seems to me like modern country radio features LP's way more than anything else, but on the ground sounds like the tele still reigns king.

Re: Cleaning up an Express' act

i second the idea of the rockster 66. i built mine with a bit higher voltage, using a 300-0-300, diode rectifier, and a choke. i think its great for what you're describing.

Re: Jailhouse 30

i like the name jailhouse 30. especially since the record player is currently spinning some jimmie rodgers. i built this amp about a year ago. i had a chassis that had the z-rec circuit in it but when i finished my proper rocket i gutted this one and built up the SW30. so yeah this is obviously tube...

Littlewyan wrote:I think thats right the 39K connects to the .0047uf Cap. Look at other amps and you'll see the tail resistor connects to the cap.
it doesn't look like thats what it does in the SW30. take a look at one of the SW30 pics and you'll see you the 39k doesn't connect to the 0.047uF.

Re: Trainwreck Songbird 30

actually i think its where the NFB hits the phase inverter. look at what you have compared to the real gutshots. the 39k should NOT go to the 0.047uF cap. it goes to the 4.7k resistor, which then goes to the 0.047uF cap.

Re: Trainwreck Songbird 30

have you tried changing the larger coupling cap in the preamp to a higher value? i see its 0.022uF, up'ing it to 0.1uF may bring in more signal to fill it out.

also, that 330k resistor in the preamp - the higher that is the more you're cutting the signal. what about a 220k?

Re: Wreck Songwriter Group Build Discussion

rj i'm going to use an extra pacific express PT i have, so it should be 250-0-250. for an output i have the MM a470s from you i haven't put in a build yet. i don't have a 7H or 15H choke around, so i'l probably end up buying a 7H marshall choke.

you won't find schematics or layouts for those amps posted here. but with some searching you can find most of the information for the songwriter. there have been a number of threads on the songwriter and user builds. have you searched this site yet? the search function on this site isn't especially ...

Re: Help with Liverpool -no sound

glad you got the first two issues resolved. with regards to probing the pin 1's....i'm not suprised at what you're describing. pin 1 is where the signal comes off of that stage, so by probing that point you're creating a slight, momentary change to the signal. so a pop is not unexpected. not sure ab...

Re: Help with Liverpool -no sound

what littlewyan said. i once had a similar issue where the power tube cathodes were way too high, just like the 30V you're seeing. turned out that the my connection to ground from the power tube cathode resistor wasn't tight. re-soldered it and everything fell into place.
