Re: Rivera interview
Similar to another thread on another board, Paul's speaker of choice was the Altec 417-8H until they stopped making them. I think the EV is pretty neutral, as is the Ampeg V series. While not the most 'signature tone' amps in the world, if it was 1975 and you played a Fender Rhodes, I'd definitely r...

Re: Rivera interview
I never really got the whole Rivera thing. His Fender models are nothing exciting, and in fact some downright suck. And the amps he sold under the Rivera name, while having nice cleans, had absolutely horrible overdrive (IMHO). Seems like a nice enough dude from the interview, but I suspect we have...

Re: Rivera interview
I was pretty good friends with him back then. I would drop in sometimes. His wife Cella told me that the Van Halen guys and Steve Lukathur kind of scared her and she didn't like it when they were at the house. He was working out of his garage for several years.

Re: How Reliable is This Bias Circuit
I can't find it, but a while back I looked into the subject. If you get 10uF Solens to replace the electrolytic(s), it takes a lot of space, but would be more reliable.

Re: Help please, amp passing audio with volume turned down
Without really looking, when there are high gain stages and wires are in parallel, you can get a transmitter/receiver pair. In other words, it could simply be lead dress. Sometimes a plate feed needs to be shaped like a big S.

Re: detuned cabinets
My 2 cents worth...excursion is important with bass cabinets, and possible downtuned guitars...no experience there. That Standell is brilliant. Never saw that type before. I wanted to build a bass cab once and I was advised to do what Carvin has done. Find a good sounding cab and copy it. I copied a...

Re: detuned cabinets
Yes, that's the idea. But instead of a cabinet & port being tuned to a small, specific frequency range, the port of a detuned cabinet is intended to affect a wider range of the frequencies that guitars produce. A speaker sized cut-out ends up working well because it's large enough to affect a wide ...

Not sure this is your problem, but I have built a bass cab where I used stuff I found at a JoAnn's...I believe it's called batting. Avoid fiberglass batting.

Re: Switchcraft style Input jacks
I'm a little unsure about what you're saying, but there is a standard which looks like 1/4" but is a wee bit smaller. They still make it. I have one plug like it and the odds of my finding right now are nil. It's loose in a 1/4" jack.

Re: Why use the 6-7-8 side of a 12ax7 for the 1st gain stage?
It's supposed to be a bit better on the noise floor...and I believe when you see a schematic without pinouts, it is the "a" section. I would think the 'a' section would be pins 1,2, and 3, but it's my understanding that that is the 'b' section. Please correct me if I have this wrong.

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb II 1982
I feel like that's a bit high. There are other amps you could buy for that kind of money. The original speaker is crap Eminence. At least it's a 12", so you would have a ton of options. You'll want to build a switch. The original (I've never owned one) has shielding issues and alters the tone via th...

Did he modify it much from the version in TUT? I built that into an amp and was a bit underwhelmed. Just wondering...gingertube wrote:Or just take the easy option

I've built a few of these, and have been happy with the results.

Re: Fender/Marshall Dual channel build ideas needed
Circuits like the two channel Rivera Rake and three channel Suhr PT100 are pretty complicated all in all. I think you can find those online...the older CAE OD-100 is the father of the tweaked Suhr model. I think with 6V6's you're in a good place splitting the 6L6 and EL-34 natures with the innate ch...
