Re: The Legend has passed
Hats off to HAD. He certainly changed my world, and many others. About 20 years ago, I had a guy build me my first custom amp. I had been playing through store bought gear up to that point and was ready to step up to better tone. The builder asked me to give him examples of a dozen guitar players wi...

Re: Message to everyone
Yep. I don't post much anymore, or have time for amp building, but I do check in most days. Always look forward to it.

Re: Guitar Tuner
Ditto on the Snark Super tight. $14. The Petersons look good but way expensive. They have the "sweetened" feature, which other tuners have as well.
I have the bench version of the Peterson Strobe Tuner ($180) that I use for set ups, intonation etc. and the $14 Snark gets me the same results.

Those are friggin' cool cabinets! Love em.
Does burlap etc. have enough sonic transparency for a grill cloth? Do you notice any muffling with those fabrics?

Re: Mountain of NOS components
I'd love a set or two of Black Beauties for the 59 Les Paul Clone I built. That would be the frosting for that project. See "LP Scratch Build" post in Amp Garage.

Re: Conclusive proof
I agree with Marcus. I worked a trade show every fall in Nashville for a bunch of years during JD Simo's residency with the Don Kelly Band. I would pretty much go listen to the band every night after shutting down my both to listen to JD. He's really a psychedelic blues rocker at heart and brought t...

Re: Jim Kelly amp at goodwill
Said Kelly after some "mods" making the amp unusable. The front panel was so hot you couldn't touch it. Lead dress anyone?
Pic taken before my friend sent it back to Jim to restore. Then sold. Got decent money for it.- Thu May 06, 2021 12:52 am

Re: Jim Kelly amp at goodwill
I've only been around two. One in a band I played in in the 80s where the other guitar player had one, and the other as an audience member listening to some hot band of studio fusion guys from LA. Two of the best live amps I've ever heard. Ungodly loud though before they hit their stride.

JGK,
That's one fine looking cab. The one it's stacked on ain't bad either.

Re: Champ Reverb Build
Nice looking build. I still really like mine, which is quiet at idle and has lovely tone. I got it back a week ago as it had been out on loan, with another Champ (no reverb), to a friend who was running them in stereo. Mine is bare bones compared to yours. I am interested in how you like the choke. ...

Re: Princeton reverb build. Speaker
I received and installed the Cannabis Rex 12" that I mentioned a few post back and will report that it is a great speaker for the Princeton... concurring with norburybrook. It is a bit darker than the Eminence JS1250 I replaced, but as it breaks in, it is becoming more open. Lots of rich overtones a...
