need some advice restoring a vox ac15
Guys, building a wreck gets you into all sorts of trouble. A friend of mine has just given me an old ac15 which (for want of a better term) has been raped, I have no idea how to get it working again and to be honest it has really just been saved from the dump. someone has obviously modified it at so...

Re: TW heater/filament wiring
Funny I mistakenly wired V1 heaters correctly and later decided to change to Fran wiring which was my original intention, to me there was more noise so I switched it back and the noise cleared, ..... although I suppose it could have been the number of twists or a small change in the wire location or...

Re: eBay listing
ebay and paypal are basically a law onto themselves, if one of their agents doesnt like something about your advert they will pull it with no explanation. I think the best advice which has already been given is avoid saying anything that could be considered deceptive and your conscience will be clea...

Re: Express Build Completed...Holy Sh!t !!!(Updated - Pictures)
Congratatulations Strato theres nothing quite like jumping straight in the deep end of a dung pile and coming out smelling of roses :D So give yourself a big pat on the back and dont underestimate what you have achieved, I know many long term plug solderers that wouldnt dream of having a go at an am...

Re: Yet another Cap question.
Anders,
I know this is not answering your question but my advice is to check the pricing from mouser & allied in the US
I also was going to purchase components in europe and even with import duty, VAT and shipping Mouser & Allied were significantly less expensive

Re: Output Transformer Questions
strato, Biasing is easy, if you built the amp you can bias it, there is loads of bias info here and in Rons guide. A separate tool is not necessary. Just be VERY careful with the placement of your probes if you choose to do the transformer shunt (fastest method), unless you like a firework display. ...

V1 plate voltages
From what I have read here a difference of around 20v between V1a and V1b plate voltage is normal. I am reading a 28v difference V1a 206 and V1b 178. I am going to double check the cathode resistor values later, is it worth trying to get these voltages closer, I can't find the post but someone menti...

Re: Need some help tuning my unstable wreck please
At practice levels, which were two clicks down on the airbrake she is back to some feedback and howling, so its time for chopstick surgery, the PI cap only took her so far, still some taming of the beast to be done. Our other guitarist likes the top end and it does work well in the mix, his only com...

Re: Need some help tuning my unstable wreck please
Rooster with the guitar vol on minimum or unplugged and everything up full with full bright there is just a hiss now, no squeal. i think that 47pf cap is the answer Glen those tips for amp and head placement were very useful. Singing sustain when standing a few feet away, but in front of the head, c...

Re: New Express clone first impressions
been trying different preamp tubes tonight and would agree with Glen. Some of the brighter sounding tubes sound good, but a darker sounding one seems to allow more use of the bright switch which brings on the dirt more. Strangely I prefer a Brimar in V1 over the couple of mulards I have. A phillips ...
