First build is alive.
Here are some pics of my first amp build, I couldnt believe it when i fired her up on the bulb limiter and things started checking out. Unfortunately I have a cheap DMM which has been giving strange readings at the top end of its scale so i did not dare go any further than check voltages and a few s...

Re: Whats minimum safe speaker power rating for express
Also, consider the type of enclosure. I have found that a closed box can handle higher levels than an open back cabinet with the same speakers. I would personally not be afraid to use a sealed or even a ported 2x12 cab with a pair of 25 watt green backs. what about a detuned cab... closed back but ...

Re: Whats minimum safe speaker power rating for express
thats what i feared, i just like the idea of a 2X12 for practical reasons and there seems agreement that the G12m greenback is the best speaker for the express. So something has got to give and i would prefer it does not end in a blown speaker considered scumbacks but the shipping to europe makes th...

Whats minimum safe speaker power rating for express
Im trying to work out if a pair of 25w greenbacks would safely handle a cranked Express, been reading reports of 80 & 100w amps blowing greenbacks in a 4X12 config so very interested in opinions

Re: My first Express build...its alive!..pic added...question?

After populating/wiring my boards im glad i had some 20awg as the spacing/holes on the turrets worked out just ab...

Re: About to start my express
Good luck with the build Steve, if you spend some time getting used to the search function on the forum, most if not all of your questions will probably already have been answered. I have probably another week or two until my build is fully assembled, the guys on here really know their stuff, and ar...

Re: MOV in the Express
I know this is an old topic to resurrect but is probably the best place for this question. According to the TW pages, In Europe a 250V MOV is recommended. Would this one be suitable ? VARISTOR, 65.0J 250VAC Case style:Radial; Current, peak 8/20us max:4500A; Energy, transient:65J; Series:StandarD; Su...

Re: Wood Question for Distortion, Skip, and you other woodfreaks
I wouldn't touch oak with the proverbial sharpened stick unless I was in the mood for Victorian reproductions. What dont you like about Oak?. The most exotic wood i trust myself working with is ply so im just interested in this comment as i have just got an inexpensive piece of oak for my wreck cab...

Re: My first Express build...its alive!..pic added...question?
i thought i could source most parts in the UK/europe, but it ended up a little cheaper and much less hassle to use mouser and allied... (even with import duty, VAT & admin fees) you guys are spoiled in the US toneslut trannys and allyns chassis were also a must. One or two substitutions had to be ma...
