Re: Debunk (or not) my little theory - rect tube socket
I may be headed the same place as Steve. Something isn't adding up. And just to check the obvious, you are using slow-blow fuses? It certainly won't hurt to swap out the suspect rectifier socket. Your description of it makes me want to pull it and throw it away. There is a point of diminishing retur...

No mention yet of the "woman tone." If you are too young to know what this is, here at about 1:54

I guess it's not really amp content, but it is dependent on the signal chain.

Re: "Dancing about Architecture" terminology and description
Syrupy: smooth, flowing, slightly overdriven, lacking in pick attack and clear definition, and when overused, annoying.

I'd rather not. They've stopped teaching basics in skool, like speling and reeding. It's not the seller's fawlt he can't get it write.

Re: Any ideas on this g12t-75?
Maybe if you clean up the basket with a damp rag you'll find some manufacturer's code on the rim. I think you already know that G12T-75 16 is a model number, 12", 75W, 16Ω, G for guitar? No clue on the T. Without a doubt, the price was right!

Easy way to make a chassis
I saw this today and thought it might be of DIY interest. He makes a jig for 16ga steel boxes without a brake. I imagine it would work equally well for aluminum. You'll need some shop equipment, but no specialized tools. If you intend to only do it with aluminum, probably the only power tool you nee...

Re: Cracked Ovation back
FWIW,I think CA glue will be OK for some of that. You think it will cover the big hole? The drawback of CA glue is that I think it is more brittle than the back material. Could be fine. Good luck with it.

Re: Cracked Ovation back
Good quality epoxy like West System or Total Boat. Add black powder pigment. Don't use the stuff from the big box store. Painters tape on the outside will give good conformity to the body and will give a matte finish. Apply with a syringe and 18ga needle from the inside. Use 10ml or 5ml syringe. The...

Re: CNC router for chassis
I think those Hammond chassis boxes are aluminum. A CNC machine should easily cut aluminum. If you want to use a steel chassis, either you'll need a set of punches, as Stevem points out, or a proper mill.

Re: Increasing the B+ ?
If it has a tube rectifier, you can change to solid state. That will eliminate the voltage drop inherent in tube rectifiers. This is simple and easily reversible. If you remove the tube, you can build it on the socket pins.

Re: Telling the difference between red-plating and red-gridding
Red plating is obvious and unmistakable. You'll know it when you see it. The red glow inside the plates is going to be the heaters.
I don't know if there is such a thing as red gridding. The grid is wound fine gauge wire. I'm reasonably sure, if overloaded, it disintegrates very quickly.

Re: MOD 102 Kit not powering on at all. Any suggestions?
Reposition the blue wire so it is away from the green filament wires. Bend towards the middle of the socket and up into the air a little. On the other socket, reposition the white wires that look to be laying on the green filament wires. Bend them up a bit to get some (more) air between the white an...

Re: Batch of VERY microphonic Mullard reissue 12ax7
While it is easy to believe they will do nothing so long after purchase, the only thing you lose by contacting them is a little bit of your time. I urge you to do it. Just remember to be polite and maybe apologetic for waiting so long. You might not get what you are entitled to (a full refund) but y...
