Re: 6G6 b+ voltage & 5881 tubes

weirdest thing , after letting the amp sit for a couple hours , checked again plate dissipation on the cold side at 13.1 & 12.9W left amp on for a half hour & played a bit rechecked, 444 b+ , 24.36w & 23.8 w plate dissipation, a resistor or cap must have gotten hot to the point of failure and is no...

Question: Does anyone recommend leaving a little bit of extra wire on the top (maybe 1") in case a re-srtrip or future repairs may need a bit of wire?

Thanks

Yes, my general practice is to leave some "maintenance slack" on the top side.

Been planning to convert one of them to a "ProLuxe" like build. You end up liking that more? What iron did you use?
Yes, Mercury Mag.....here's the first one.

Re: A couple years late to the party - finally built a Tweedle Dee..

Yeah, I found it did a bit extra headroom although I wandered off the range and used Tweed Pro iron and 5881's.

Re: A couple years late to the party - finally built a Tweedle Dee..

thanks! I've built a 5e3 but didn't care too much for it. perhaps this is better I built both circuits side by side with same transformers(Classictone), resistor types, tube types, etc. Don't expect a big difference. At least in my case and freshly built they were very similar sounding. A little mo...

I'd like to run it a little lower on the plates for 5881 tubes, would it starve the heaters at 6v ?
6.3V plus/minus 10% = 5.67 - 6.93V

Re: Fake factor?

Am I the only one to feel that this amp will have a huge amount of peers - with dubious stories and many (many) zeros on the price tag, when considering all the builds (here) with the explicit mention of Dumble's name on them? Yes probably, this amp comes up in threads from time to time and there h...

Re: Monkeymatic ODS #183

Amp performed very well last night. Outdoor show, playing in concrete bandshell, got to play at a decent volume. Chassis got very hot to the touch--90 degrees ambient--but nothing burned, logos on EL34s still nice and new looking. But I thought I'd cool the bias a bit and see if it still sounds goo...

Re: New Build: Ceriatone Replica OTS 50W

You can also bend the "foot" of the 3-terminal strip so it sits lower to the chassis. Then you won't need a standoff for the voltage regulator. (Sry--backseat driving after the fact!) I do the same thing so the terminal strip sits on the floor of the chassis, in addition to slightly bending the leg...

I don't care for the new forum, so much less building and more tech questions then should be needed. People do not research and study anymore. If I had more will power I would stay the hell of this forum, but my enjoyment now days is surfing the net rather then bench time, woodworking or hot rods. ...
