Re: Doubling capacity of first filter cap

Since it is a single ended amp, there isn't any hum canceling in the power amp. The simple fix for your hum problem is to add a choke and a cap BEFORE the existing B+ tap for the OT. You need a choke that can handle the current—a 250ma. choke of about 4 to 10 henries would be good. The first cap can...

Re: Bypass cap for cathode bias push pull output tubes

Mostly true.

Depending on where the bias is at and the impedance of the OT, there might be a period when it moves from Class A into AB1 but prior to clipping. In this case, the capacitor will have an effect.

Re: Ten Eyelets Short of a Board

I think you're onto something with this. Maybe you need a verse about your honey swaging your eyelets in the wrong holes.

Re: Cathode bias review

Question: Okay, fine and dandy with all the formulas and stuff. How does that make the big resistor like a small resistor?

Answer: Valentine's Day.

Okay, that monkey video got really weird—reminds me of studying chemistry when I was younger.

Re: OSX Yosemite & USB MIDI: any known issues? - RESOLVED

Lou, As Tony mentioned, there is an update to 10.10.2 available now. I would install that and see what happens. I have a 2009 Mini and just installed Yosemite (I was using Snow Leopard). Everything is working fine for me although I don't use midi. There were some bugs with Wifi, bluetooth and a few ...

Re: The importance of guitar amp input circuits

In the first post, you mentioned wanting "a tutorial covering the importance of radio frequency suppression, signal to noise, microphonics, shielding, miller capacitance(and how it relates to series resistance, cable/shielding capacitance), etc." Then later you said that you "know the theory, [and h...

This would also be a good place to start:

All of the criteria the OP listed are a part of the basic design of a tube stage—learn those things and then you know how to tweak it or "design" for your specific needs and goals.

Re: Bench light recommendations please

I use a desk lamp and put a 60 or 75 watt bulb in it. Then I move it up as close as I can to where I am working (inches away). My eyes are getting so bad that I need a lot of light really close. I also have a Maglite flashlight close at hand for when I need even more light!

Re: 2061x clone build question

Quiz time.

1. What is the purpose of the turrets or eyelets on the board?

2. Find a gut shot of an amp that uses a turret board. Describe the method used to mount components and how the wires are connected to the components.
