Re: Express Harmonics and Feedback

If the meter is "using" some current when measuring across the resistor it would explain the different drop reading. I would imagine that analog meters would "use" much more current than digital but I have no guesses as to those figures. You're not using an analog right?

Re: 4-6V6 TW?

Was it recommended that the impedance be switched between the 2 tube types? Is that the origin of the 2 OPT primary sets on the toneslut trannies? :?:

Re: What do you recommend for tools?

I have a nice 17” adjustable arm Grizzly drill press but I have not used it for my current build. I bought a set of punches but the sizes are wrong for me so I’m using titanium bits and Unibits and they are working great on the aluminum chassis. Haven’t yet figured out how to deal with hole for the ...

Re: is this done right

Both of the pics will work. However, as stated, it's best to place the switch and fuse on the hot (black) line: wall black > fuse other side of fuse > switch other side of switch > either existing twisted pair of tranny wires wall white > the other existing twisted pair of tranny wires This is the s...

Re: Express Harmonics and Feedback

Low volume can be caused by ultrasonic oscillation. The plate resistor voltage drop change sounds like it could be from one measurement-scenario being during oscillation and one w/o oscillation :?

Ohm's law is Ohms=Volts/Ampere.

The power equation is named after James Watt.

The Radio Shack Tuner Cleaner I have shoots out at 50,000 MPH. Makes a mess if you don't protect the area well. The Craig Deoxit is not as bad.

Re: Gibson GA-8t (EA-35T) Question

The scematic shows a 13v drop across the 1k.

1000=13/amps
amps=.013

watts = volts x amps
watts = 13 x .013
watts = 0.17

This is after the filters charge. Initial load could be more.

I wish I had that when I tiled the kitchen floor last year. I used a diamond blade on my table saw with no dust collection system. Lotsa noise and dust. :cry:

Re: Any insight into this b@st@rd amp I have?

You could reduce bass (with no tone controls) by: Reducing the value of the cathode cap on stage 1. It's 100u? Try 1u or 0.1u. Reducing the value of the .02 coupling cap(s.) Stage 1's should have the most affect. Maybe try .005 or .01. Removing the treble reducing resistor/cap on the plate of the 3...

Re: Express Harmonics and Feedback

I think on TGP I read how someone achieved much better sustain/feedback from flipping the speaker polarity. (Not merely the OPT secondary since that would turn the negative feedback into positive.) Its the “absolute phase” thing. He swears it was a huge difference.

Probably not a TW btw.

Re: Have You Ever Been Shocked Working On An Amp

No shocks from amps yet. 8) My father belonged to Holiday Spas / European Health Spas back in the ’60-‘70s. We used to tag along sometimes. There were some vending machines in the pool room which had a tiled floor. One day I was trying to put quarters in the soda machine but my arm would shake every...

Re: Express Build Pictures

Very nice. The only thing I would mention is the black heater wire laying on top of the v1a's cathode wire at the socket. I would swing it to the left a tad to make it perpendicular instead of parallel to the cathode wire. This will reduce the chance of heater hum coupling on to the cathode wire.

Re: V4 / 5 1.5K grid resistor wattage

Here you go: http://aikenamps.com/ResistorNoise.htm ".......If no current (AC or DC) flows in the resistor, the noise is equal to the thermal noise ......" " the thermal noise of a 1K carbon resistor is the same as a 1K metal film; it is independent of material..." Sounds like a grid stopper's mate...
